I got my CK20hst with 12" and 24" buckets, for trenching/root-busting and transplanting. Looks like I'll be swapping back and forth. Two questions:

1. Am I just being stupid, or did they really put the pin bolts (or whatever they're called) in such a position that a socket wrench won't fit? Seems awkward.

2. I can pick up either bucket (though I probably shouldn't). So getting near the ground and then rocking in and out seems to work. Is there a standard "easy" way that I'm missing?

Thanks-

I have never given it much thought, but I put the bucket on the ground with teeth and bucket bottom just touching or less than an inch off and with the dipperstick vertical remover cylinder pin and then pivot pin, move bucket out of the way and slide other bucket in its place, add which ever pin whose holes line up better and push bucket with foot to line up other hole.

I just lower the bucket down, un pin it, and replace with the next bucket. What do you need a wrench for? I just unpin and go to the next bucket sitting beside where I drop off the first one.
You can use the BH controls to get the dipper stick just where you need it, hook one pin in and adjust the stick for the bottom pin and put it in. John

KiotiJohn,

At the end of the pin that goes through the bucket there is a bolt that holds the pin in place. At least there is on mine. Is yours setup different? And yes the bolt is a PITA to get out. With a little use the nylon locking nut has given up some of it's locking ability but not nearly enough /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif.

I had thought about using a lynch pins but was worried about them getting caught and coming out during use.

Thanks

Kurt

Funny, I just don't remember. I'll have to go look when the sun gets up more. Been working all night, and a little tired, but I need to do some measurements for someone anyway, so I'll look at my bucket too. It's been a couple of months since I needed to change out buckets, and my mind is fried from working a lot lately.
I'll get back. John

Kurt, I looked at mine and remembered instantly that it was a little difficult to get those bolts off, but not too bad.
I think lock washers could be substituted for the nylocks, but one would certainly have to check them often for tightness.
I think you're right, most any pin wouldn't stand a chance for long on there.
