So, I went over to Western States Cat in Spokane and we headed up north to demo the new Supertrak machine. Des Trent, the NW salesman was my contact, and Tom King, the President was there to show the new machine!
First, I ran the ASV 100 for over a half hour and getting a feel for it. A FAE head was mounted on the front. This machine does a nice job of cutting. The cab leaves much to be desired, however, the back up camera is a nice additional feature that was on this model. I was less than impressed with the drive-ability of the machine. It has a hard time doing 'zero' turns, and response from the joystick was often delayed. however, it is a nice machine, but I feel that the price of this machine doesnt equate to the quality. (this is my opinion, im not bashing anyone elses machine, just giving my thoughts).
Then, I was able to wrestle the SK140 from the hands of the others at the demo! This machine had the steel single track grouser, and FAE 2speed head. Just looking at the machine before it moves is impressive. Then you hear it rolling, it sounds like a mini D5 running around out there! Closing the cab, you are behind a 1/2" lexan door with tearoffs (like in nascar) for added visibility, and you can tell the cab is very well sealed. I took my earplugs out while running this machine (how often does that happen?!). Anyway, the 140hp is AMAZING! There is nothing that seems to stop this thing. If you are able to jam up the head, it is up and running in less than 3 seconds. The SK drives like a dream, i was working on 8 foot spacing running circles around 10" diameter trees without issue. It ate whole trees like they were toothpicks. They did an excellent job in the engineering dept and everything is made for operator comfort and ease of service.
I attached a few pics, i cant say enough about the SK 140. at 15K lbs its a little giant, and monsters thru the woods with ease. I would say the production is about 2x that of the ASV and comfort was 10x the ASV.
Very impressive machine. I hope to have one in my arsenal when the time is right for me. If you have questions, please ask away!
