FINALLY got my diverter valve installed on my 3015. I had a bracket made so the diverter valve could be placed on the same bracket as the loader valve. I think it turned out pretty nice. Hydraulic tip that I learned the hard way, USE LOTS OF TEFLON TAPE!! Had a few fitting leaking after initial install, mostly due to not enough teflon tape. Here is a picture:

I am going to buy some of that hose sleeve to protect the hoses. They are all tucked nicely along the side of the loader, pretty well protected. Now I can finally use that 48" MTL grapple I bought!

Very good. Having the "extra" hydraulic capabilities up front is really handy. I bought the third function valve system from Summit and the instructions with that said NOT to use teflon tape. I was a bit skeptical about that but I've not had any leaks or seeps so they were right. The only issue/problem I had with my install was getting a couple fittings on the tractor loader valve itself (4020R) that went from the PB. It was BPSS (or something like that) and a bit unusual for around here. I got the info for those two fittings from Dave's Tractors in Redding. Lifesaver for me as no one around here had a clue as to what they were. My use is for a snow plow, it's the only implement I need a separate system up front for now. I sure could have used a grapple a few years back when we were cleaning up our lower acreage from a years ago logging operation, what a mess that was but I'd never even heard of a grapple then. Any way, nice job on the diverter and have fun with that grapple.

Nice looking install, but yes Teflon tape is really not recommended in hydraulic systems, small bits and pieces can foul relief and spool valve, and block orifices.

Is that why there is teflon tape on every fitting on the factor install FEL valve? It would be impossible to use half of these fittings without teflon tape.

Hombre, the instructions say not to use teflon tape on the valve body fitting THAT HAVE O-RINGS.

It does look like the general consensus is tape has potentially bad side effects in hydraulic systems. It's what the guy at Hydraulic Supply told me to use, and this guy knew his stuff. Regardless, it's done now with no leaks. I will be extra careful if/when I redo it and consider using a paste.

If you're careful with the tape it's ok but some people aren't that careful. Also, reuse pulls up bits of tape which can be hard to remove from the female side. For tapered threads I use Loctite 545 which is made to seal tapered hydraulic threads that seal by deformation (i.e. NPT or BSPT). It works much better than the paste or tape, which only lubricate the threads.

BSPP seals with a crush washer. Tape or paste is probably not right for it, like with the O-ring joints.

Well....it is a Branson
