I am looking to purchase a top quality 3 point hitch fertilizer spreader for my BX22. I have had it with poor quality units. Anyone know of top quality spreaders that will properly fit the BX series tractors??????? thanks ..... the original Junk....

for quality check out spyker spreaders. Many golf courses use them and have great results. I use to sell them and they were trouble free. stainless steel parts with a poly hopper. I have used Herd spreaders before and others, but felt the spyker was the best. Vicon makes a good spreader also.

Sitrex pto spreaders are the best we have found, simple to operate, decent paint and they spread a nice balanced pattern. As a matter of fact im going to fertilize 11 athletic feilds with ours today. Great work when you can get it! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Are we talking manure type fertilizer or the powdered stuff?
I have a source for plenty of horse based fertilizer but find it hard to spread. Now BS is another story, I spread that all the time quite easily.
Thanks

I did a search for these a while back and ended up with a HERD brand spreader. They are made right here in Indiana, which I considered an added bonus. Most of the cone type spreaders were thin spun steel, the Herd unit is a cast bottom that is very thick and heavily made, the tub is galvenized. There were a couple discussions about them, several other TBN members have them, and seem to be very happy with them. I've only used mine this season, so I don't have a lot of experience with it but I do like it.

I also, based on the recommendations in various threads here, bought a Herd spreader this spring. We use it primarily with our BX1500, though I'm sure it will work equally well on our B2910. So far, I am very happy with it. Quality and durability of construction seem quite a lot better than the competition. I particularly like the design, with a cast iron bottom, and then a very tall galvanized storage cone. You can also buy an extender for the top cone to further increase its capacity.

One thing to bear in mind - - any fertilizer spreader made of metal must be meticulously cleaned of any and all left over fertilizer at the end of the day. Leaving fertilizer beads or dust stuck to any metal parts is the rough equivalent of soaking the item in battery acid. The corrosive action is absolutely amazing.
