I have a subsoiler that I have used behind my JD 3020 on the farm but I want to use it at my house where only my NH - TC -29 D will maneuver well...

I want to use the subsoiler to break up a garden spot for the spring...so my plan is to wait until after a light soaking rain and then hook it up to the NH 29 HP tractor and see if it will dig down...With the JD 3020 I could bury the thing but that is 68 HP...so I am hoping that with damp red clay soil I can go more than an inch or two...???

Any guesses on how far down it will go..I also have turf tires and 2 wheel drive... This may be a waste of time -- Any thoughts ?

Single shank? What type of tooth? 10" maybe, I don't know your soil.

We recently made a single shank chisel plow for my FIL's JD2305. He didn't think it would pull it and it did pretty well considering the conditions.

Question. Why a subsoiler for primary tillage?

You want the soil dry when using a subsoiler, otherwise it only smears a groove through the soil. If the soil is dry it will heave and crack the soil a foot or two on each side of the shank which is good. I used one on my garden area a couple years ago in the fall, and was amazed at how much easier it was to till it up in the spring.

Use a middle buster (aka potato plow) for this job ($140 from Tractor Supply).

I did this plowing with the MB attached to my 2005 Kubota B7510HST (21 hp engine, 17 hp pto, 4WD, hydrostatic tranny). You can tell from the lack of mud on the tractor tires that the ground was fairly dry when I did this work.
