Lack of common sense is IMO the major thing wrong with workplaces in the USA today. Workers lack common sense, and rules lack common sense. Every workplace needs a "common sense committee" that can overrule everything else.

Put signs at the entrance.

Wouldn't be OSHA compliant. The font is not consistent in size.

That lack of common sense is in itself the exact problem. However, I think it is a Catch 22 in that employees tend to think everything must be absolutely safe in all regards, and sue if something untoward occurs. Therefore, OSHA or acronym of choice, steps in to 'alleviate' the problems, thereby causing the employees to feel 'safe' and simply expect everything to be perfect once again. This cycle of ignorance and pushing responsibility onto others is exactly what is causing so many of the work injuries today.

I know there were horrid working conditions in the old days and that these have significantly improved, don't get me wrong. However, I see people working who cannot think, and simply ignore 'common sense' because its not in the manual.

Could be the reason a lot of us seek out the country life after having experienced the city life...

To be fair... I have really seen employees go to the doc for paper cuts, back, wrist, elbow and shoulder sprains, etc...

And not to get into a fight... in 25 years all have been women in the workforce... including directors that took every last day of sick leave and PTO and on the day back said they retire.

There was a time when I had buy and fit everyone with back braces... it started as a few and then everyone... couldn't tell you where a single brace is today...

Someone cut themselves on a box cutter so they all had to go...

People have to use more common sense with farm / country living, or they sometimes get naturally selected not to survive the experience.

^^^ One of the smart allec kids was visiting my grandparents farm and decided to pee on the electric cattle fence... well, it is something he will never do again!!!

Had this happened in the workplace I'm sure new signs would have gone up cautioning against peeing on the fence hot wire...

Back in the day on sthe farms, it was the elder brother's job to edumacate younger brother how to pee on a hot wire. We all learned and passed it on down.

The biggest problem my contractor friends have is finding employees that have a clean driving record and that can pass a drug test...

Drugs as well as driving records are a big problem around here. I was talking to the manager at the local Lowes about their problems with customer service. He stated that all their employees are overworked as they are 30% short on their approved staffing level. They deny work to way more applicants over marijuana in their system than they hire. Any residual iand you are out. Opoids are now a big item also. Just because it is legal in WA sate does not make it legal in the work place. Insurance companies including state WC set those rules. Job requires driving, even your own car, you better have a clean record or join the homeless.

People still have not gotten the drift of the way the world is, not how they want it.

It is going to hit here big too... that being in California as it will be legal for 21 and over to partake and grow for your own use... a few days ago a CHP officer was killed when someone under the influence struck his cruiser...

I thing it will take time to realize showing up stoned is the same as showing up inebriated... but stone has residual.

The Occupation Medical Clinics have been gearing up big time in anticipation.

Could this be the final work on the lost generation?

Or maybe the plan is to simply placate a segment of the population?

I was in Colorado a couple weeks ago for work. Happened to ask one of my coworkers how pot legalization effected current employment drug tests. He pointed out that if you wanted a decent job, you abstained. Many jobs fall under federal guidelines, and insurance considers it the same as showing up intoxicated. With the residual, you would be hard pressed to prove if you were stoned while working or not. So workmans comp won't cover you if you have an accident.
