O.k. first, I don't know anything about tractors. I don't even own one, but for a very obscure reason and too lengthy to explain here, I really would like to know what the difference is between a 7-1/2 ft backhoe and a 6-1/2 ft backhoe. Is there a major difference? Is it the reach of the arm? If so, why would the market want such two products of similar nature? Why not have only a 7-1/2 footer? My assumption is that the number is the reach. Is that true? Thanks to whoever provides the answer!:)

Someone has to ask to learn things don't they? I believe it is the digging depth is the difference... There would be a bit of the cost factor for weight and hydraulics plus a bit more engine power. Little things like that. And if you want Chrome hubcaps that will be extra.

difference ? hmm .... money , money , money. I think that covers it. Really!
Other then depth difference, HP on said tractor, overall profitbility to sell said tractor.

Yes, the difference is the digging depth, but per SAE standard of a 24" flat bottom at the rated depth. One reason for having both 6-1/2 and 7-1/2 available is the inherent weight difference and it's effect on leverage at full reach. This impacts the ability of various small tractors to handle the variation in backhoe size, they should be "matched" to the tractor. That is why even production tractor mounted backhoes can be found in 10', 12' 13', 14', 15', 17' sizes.

It's not just "adding a foot", but because it's longer, the whole thing has to be made heavier and stronger. So adding 16% in length may mean a 25 or 30% increase in steel and weight.

Different tractors have different capabilities therefor Bck Hoes right along with all other implements must be sized accordingly.
