Well, I never expected this one, so I thought I would share it so you all can avoid the same thing yourself.

I stepped off the backhoe while digging a few tree holes in the deep grass and didn't notice the Big Foot outrigger. I partially stepped on it and rolled my ankle - arrgh!

I'm not about to paint these thing bright yellow, but they can be a trip hazard.

So, no ghastly wound from a fan belt; no crushed limb with a pinch point. Just my big feet getting in the way.

Anyone else with a similar "geez, I can't believe it did that to myself" story?

Jon

I haven't stepped on the bigfoot but I've bashed my ankle against the outriggers when I've walked by them.

Sometimes when I'm using the hoe I have to move small amounts so I just lift them, get off the tractor and advance the tractor by moving the hydro pedal with my hand. Then I engage the parking brake, get back up into the seat.

Silliest thing I've done is get the joystick or gear shift up the leg of my shorts getting off.

So - How many times has anybody else but me smashed their shin against the trailer hitch on the back of your truck or tractor....It hurts worse in the winter when it is cold...brings tears to your eyes...hopping around in a parking lot draws a crowd..Next time I do it ...I am going to charge for the show....LOL

Oh, I've got that beat by a mile!:) I could not get my Suzuki King Quad 4x4 ATV to start, and for some unremembered, at this moment, reason I decided to use a screwdriver to hold the throttle plate open. I guess I was charging a dead battery, and when it was cooked enough to start the ATV I cranked it over and immediately went for the ride of my life. Forget the bronking bull at the local western bar, think jet fighter making an evasive move at Mach 5!! I took off and headed completely out of control at full throttle in any direction the machine felt like taking. It headed straight for the parked Kioti and crashed. I was able to come to what was left of my senses and turned off the ATV. The Kioti saved me- otherwise I'd be still strapped to the rocket until I ran out of gas! TRUE STORY!:confused2:

Haven't stepped on the outrigger, that's a good one to be aware of. The 'unexpected' ones I've had so far are:
  • shin on the trailer hitch, outrigger or bucket edge
  • hitting head on the work light mounting plate when getting on BH (thankfully I had a hard hat on or I would have lost a lot of scalp)
  • joystick on BH stuck in coat
  • lots of cutting of fingers when fiddling with pins and slip rings

its good to hear what people have done so we can avoid doing it ourselves!

Nothing I can recall about hurting myself, but I got a re-occuring problem with a tractor and shovel:

The round cross-tube like on most FEL's that tie the arms together....well, thats where I usually store the shovel when doing some digging. Just shove the handle in and go.

Well, hills, vibrations, and turns and the thing will eventually walk out of the hole a few feet.

And rest-assured, a shovel handle is no match for a L3400 when you catch a tree with it:mad: I've broke 3 shovels like that. You'd think I'd learn, but nope, I still keep my shovel there when doing dirt work:confused2:

Hooking up anything to my three point before I tilt up my rop, it's just the perfect height when down to put a good sized egg on the melon when you stand up under it.
Even more aggrivating is installing the hoe on the three point and realizing you can't put the rop up because it's below the controls.....Mike

I am not used to the ROPS yet on my L5030. I have a bunch of trees I brush hog around, and I try to keep the trees pruned, but that is a never ending job.

Prior to the ROPS, it was a simple matter of slowing down and creeping under the limbs, lifting branches out of my way. Now I sometimes forget that the ROPS is going to catch the branches and I have been whipped in neck and back a few times too many!!
