Tractor
Kubota 7800
So, I started at 6am this morning to plow out from the latest storm. Once I cleared the driveway apron in front of the garage, I headed down the driveway. I had an unusual amount of difficulty getting back up the drive, in fact, I couldn't . Even when I used the differential lock, I still spun in place. Couldn't understand it, had chains on and the snow wasn't much worse than last week. I gently coaxed my 7800 to make it up the hill (well, maybe 'coaxed' is too gentle a word for what I actually said) to no avail. Then, in desparation, I brushed the snow off of the fender lever panel (it was snowing hard at the time) and noticed that the four-wheel drive lever was in the two-wheel position. Right then I remembered jumping off the tractor on Saturday on the right side (normally I use the left side), and my coat getting hung up on the lever. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Duh.

Considering that I plowed over a foot of snow for an hour or more in two-wheel drive, I'd have to say that 'Old Bessie' preformed pretty well. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I did notice that my dog was snickering at me, when I finally went back inside at 9. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

this one's not related to tractors, but it sure qualifies...

Here's a story about the stupid human that was out on a jon boat when it was too dark running too fast without bothering to attach the kill cord (hey it's just a half mile to home, gotta hurry, dark soon). He hit a floating log and got pitched out, jamming the throttle wide open and turning the tiller in the process. He got a real good close up of what a spinning boat propellor looks like from the bottom /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif.

Boat spun off in some shallow water, motor soon overheated and self destructed. The stupid human crawled back in and paddled home, thankful that sometimes the greater powers take care of those too stupid to take care of themselves.

I tell this story often hoping someone else will listen and not repeat my incredibly stupid trick.

Dieselsmoke, about 20 years ago, my secretary's son-in-law did something similar; fell out of his boat and it turned back, ran over him, and killed him. His two very small boys were in the boat at the time.

While it might not be the dummest thing I've ever done it is the most recent. A friend of mine called up and said he had priced a rental of a Bobcat to remove about 20ft of his blacktop driveway. He said he couldn't afford to rent it, but that the driveway was really dangerous and his mom had fallen visiting him and his family. He asked if the BX2200 I had would be able to remove the blacktop.

I told him no problem, loaded the tractor on the trailer and off I went. I had no problems pulling up the driveway. In some spots it was 6 inches thick. It became dark and I put the tractor on the trailer to start home. He has a really messed up driveway on this hill. I was backing the trailer into his driveway since he lives on a dead ended street with no turn around.

As the trailer went into the driveway the back got stuck on the driveway and the angle lifted the trailer wheels off the ground. As I backed up the trailer "jack knifed" and spun. I heard my friend yelling and got out. He told me that he thought the tractor had hit the tailgate. I looked and sure enough there was the slightest chip in the tailgate. My friend felt terrible, but I told him not to worry about it.

I was driving home and stopped at a store to get something for my wife. When I came out of the store I saw the passenger side of the bed of my truck had been caved in by a 2x4 in a stake pocket on the trailer. Saved my buddy $350......cost me $700!

Just like BPD239, this is one of my more recent Duh's ...... I had finished up mowing and put the L3010 away. About 1/2 hour later I had another job for the tractor. I open up the building, hop on, turn the key ...and nothing. I checked and double checked everything I could think of. The tractor had just been running, what in the world could be wrong. The pto was off, I was pressing the clutch all the way in. I tried changing to neutral instead of M which i normally mow in. no effect. I thought I had run down the battery, but the tractor is just a little over a year old. The battery shouldn't be dead already. Turns out a little green apple from one of the trees i mow under hitched a ride on da Bota and was sitting right by my pto switch. The pto was indeed off, but the apple was stopping the lever from seating the way it should. Once I removed the apple all was fine. Sure had me worried there for abit ....and wondering what could I be forgetting.

My uncle who was about 60 when this happened. He had just bought a brand new Troy Bilt mower and it had the pedal push to go set-up instead of the clutch and gear like he was used to. When he came up to his 6 foot chain link fence, he went to stop and instinct took over. He shoved the pedal to the floor as to push in the clutch and that mower took off like a rocket and started to climb the fence while he is pushing so hard on the pedal it is ready to break off. Finally he turned the key off then realized what had happened then took the tractor back to the store and exchanged it for one with a clutch.

Funny!

I'm a little nervous about my Bota HST if someone gets on it and gets out of control..... Pushing it to the floor would not be nice.......Hopefully, Everyone (including me!) will remember JUST TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF and you will stop!

Unless you have a BX.... then you will slow down! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Man's been to the moon and yet Kubota can't get the accelerator to center. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Ok.. I wanted to put a Banks Hi-Flow cat back exhaust on my new Jeep Rubicon. I looked under and it looked as though it would be a simple wrench job. I backed it up on the ramps and used my wife’s mini-van as a front stop just in case. I looked under again and found i would have to remove a skid plate to get at the bolts. I removed the skid plate bolts and it came down heavy, but I got it out from under and removed the exhaust (not easy, but not that bad). Then I heard it creak.. and then again.. Then I realized that nothing was holding up my engine / tranny / transfer case except the rubber engine mounts. I could have been smashed.

So, then i really screwed things up. I panicked and got a jack under it. I rammed it up in to position with the jack and put the plate up but had a hard time getting the bolts started. They were tough to get out too since they had anti seize. I used a 8 inch adjustable to get them out, but mid job I went to sears and got a 18mm socket and a big 1/2 inch drive wrench. It seemed about the same tightness putting it back in as it did taking it out. But with the leverage difference i really was stripping out and breaking loose the frame nutserts.

Once I figured out that I was totally hosing up my 450 mile old Jeep, i stopped. I got it to my welding guy and he made it right for a c note.

I have no business owning tools!
