Dug out an 18 inch stump today. Ended up with a good size hole as I had to break the roots before I could get it out of the ground. Found a couple of times the front was lifting so think next time I will fill the loader with gravel for some counter weight. This should give the backhoe more force to break the roots.

i'd be careful about loading the front to much, you might break tractor in half.

Had the backhoe on the back, this is what I dug the stump out with. Backhoe is heavy so makes a nice counter weight. It was an Alder stump 18 inches in diameter. Roots make it look bigger that is. Was really not that heavy, the loader lifted it no problem.

Stumps can be a lot of work, and even hard on your tractor. But are great for getting in lots of backhoe practice.

I'd like to have some of your weather. Looks absolutely beautiful there. 28"+ of snow on the ground here with temps in the teens tonight. More snow forcast for Tuesday. I'm ready for spring after this one!

I would not fill bucket, I'm of the opinion that you need to let the machine move around at least some. All of that force will be transmitted to the mounting bolts, and ultimately frame.

IMHO I would definitely not load up the bucket.

These things are definitely not industrial backhoes and should not be treated as such.

"so think next time I will fill the loader with gravel for some counter weight. This should give the backhoe more force to break the roots."

You may want to reconsider..frontend lifting thats warning sign, more digging maybe chainsaw w/old chain for cutting roots.

I hope we have not overdone it with oour cautioniing. If you have a stump to dig with that back hoe by all means Mousefield should attack it. These backhoes are not merely a big bunch of sissy attachments either. While I know it's not of the industrial variety, I have 450 hours on my CK20 and 200 hours of it was backhoe time mostly digging stumps.

Read all your manuals for the tractor and the attachments and practise safe common sense usage and put that thing to work. I don't really think you need to buy a backhoe and leave the rig parked as a monument. Use but no sense in abusing.

While I did not happen to see any warnings in the backhoe manual for loading the FEL bucket during usage I know it is abusing the unit to bounce the front end around while the tractor backhoe is under load too.

I know all who have responded here would agree common sense goes a long way with safe and capable operation.

Good comments regarding loading the front bucket. I want to safely use my machine but not abuse it. Thinking about all the times I have seen proper backhoes at work on the street none of them had the front bucket loaded. So again appreciate the comments.
As for the weather, this is the mildest January on record yet look at last year when we had about 5 feet of snow (see pics). First winter I had the CK35 and it sure came in handy. I'm looking at the grass growing and may have to mow soon. We use Celsius in Canada and the forecast is for two week in the range of 9-11 for a high and low around 4. So in Fahrenheit about low of 38 and high 54.
