The neighbor had a Cat D4 dozer and backhoe working and I stopped to see what it take to get rid of 1/2 stumps in the backyard....we'd burnt one for 2 years now! So, for $75 and about an hours work they are GONE!! I nearly wet my pants when he told me the price, which factors a lot, he drove from yard to yard (only having to go straight across my gravel road), so no transporting involved and he finished one job as his workers tossed down straw on another, a some buddy factor, but the key line was "I'm just trying to be fair and make a living."
So, all gone but our driveway got lost in areas with 3-4 of dirt from the dozer shoving the stumps away. Lookout here comes the Mighty B7500 and box blade. After a few trips getting some dirt gone I was having trouble finding the gravel drive.... I dropped the scarifiers all the way down and away I go.... ta da!!
So, about 30-45 minutes later I have recovered my driveway, we'll need a load soon, but we were about ready to get a load for the Iron Hill Shed Project and RV parking area, so it'll be alright soon enough.
I lifted up the scarifiers and set the BB where it was about 1" off the "level" ground and drove around catching sticks, stumps, roots and CARTER COUNTY ROCKS (they call this Iron Hill for a reason too!).
Then another 20-30 minutes I had the BB just skimming the ground surface and by golly we got a useable yard! I have grass seed ready to go down and hope to find a few bales of straw today. Our yard looks 1 million times better!
The stump we burned for two years was a big red oak. We'd pick up the dog piles (Abby is a biull mastif, so big dog = big piles) and toss in the stump and set a fire ever couple weeks or as time allowed...btw, we've moved her to the other side of the yard.
