My tractor has a front end loader with two primary connections (lift and curl) coming from the right side, in front of the operator station. I have never disconnected these. I also have a third function with hoses connecting at the rear of the tractor for use with my grapple. I'm now interested in getting a stump grinder and wondering if there is a simple way to switch back and forth. The stump grinder (Woods TSG-50) has two cylinders (lateral and vertical). Woods also has an accessory kit for those with single connection but I'm not sure how that would work? I'm assuming I'd want to use the two primary hydraulic connections with the grinder - controlling it with my joystick. Is there any difficulty for a novice like me to make this work? Do I just need to acquire some extra long hoses?

Is your stump grinder cutting head powered by hyd motor or by the PTO?

If the grinder is PTO driven, you could use the QD work ports from the FEL to control the cyl on the stump grinder.

There might be a problem with the regen on the FEL if it has regen.

If the stump grinder is all hyd, then you need a three spool valve that can control a hyd motor and control the up/dn, and the left/right cyl.

or

A BH type circuit coming off the PB or pressure feed.

Your third function could feed the hyd to the stump grinder also.

I am not an expert, by any means, and I don't own one of these, but here is what I think others are doing, I believer MossflowerWoods is operating his from his rear remotes. He has 2 rear remotes, one each for the lateral cylinder and the vertical cylinder. Since you only have one you could get the the aux. splitter kit from Woods which will give you two controls to operate the grinder hydraulic movement cylinders and you put your one rear remote into detent if you have it or use a bungee cord to hold it in an operated condition if you dont to provide fluid flow to the grinders auxilarry valve splitter kit. There are several guys on here that have the PTO driven, hydraulic controlled Woods TSG-50 grinder. One is MossflowerWoods. You might find him and send him a PM and see how he operates his. But I am pretty sure he takes hydraulic power off of the two remotes on the back of the tractor.. I could be wrong. There would be no problem in running hoses with QD to your Front End Loader control valve, except don't go into the regen mode on the loader as JJ noted. Don't forget you will be turned around partially in your seat and craning your neck, to see what you are doing, I don't know how your FEL controls are laid out and whether you can reach them conveniently while looking over your shoulder... I found another user for you.. foggy1111 who has one and a JD. He used the FEL controls. You might want to read this link of his:

The grinder wheel is PTO driven. I'm not sure what regen is??? My set-up sounds very similar to what Foggy1111 was describing in his earlier thread. I will need to face forward in tractor seat while operating the grinder with my controls on my right side. I do have HST transmission for manuevering near the stump.

I cannot explain how the regen hydraulic circuit works, JJ can do that, but I can explain what it is and how it is activated. On your FEL joystick control you have "curl" by pushing your stick left, and "dump" by pushing your stick right. And you have a regen function or very fast dump if your bucket is loaded by pushing your joystick past the normal dump position to far right. It is like the bucket dumps under control of gravity, not the normal speed of the hydraulic cylinder filling with hydraulic fluid. I know I did not explain this very well, perhaps others could do better.

Regen provides more volume and less pressure to make things work a little faster.

Some valves have regen in the first part of lever movement , and in other valves the regen is at the end of lever travel. There is usually a soft stop between normal and fast.

Regen essentially takes the fluid from the rod end and adds it to the incoming pump fluid for the base end of the cyl..

I think I would obtain a two spool valve with PB and set it up by your right hand, and feed the new valve with the third function valve.

Once you have flow to the new valve, the levers on the two spool valve will control the movements on the stump grinder.

This will keep the FEL as is.

Disconnect the grapple QD and connect to the new valve IN port.

Thanks for the expertise -- I'll follow your advise and go with the option for single hydraulics and use my PB ports presently controlling the grapple. Hopefully there is enough money hidden in my sock drawer for this!

I know this is a little out of date but I hope someone can help. I also have a single connect in back and a frontend loader. My stump grinder has two cylinders up down left right and it is PTO powered. My question is I am a novice and have no idea where I might locate the valve/splitter and there are two hoses for each cylinder will this valve accommodate all four hose connections? Thanks
