I have a NH TC26DA with a FEL that I am having problems reconnecting the hydralics due to a stuck joystick. With the tractor off I try to move the joystick and it will not move in any direction. I need to do this to relieve the back pressure on the control valves so I can reconnect my quick connects. I disconnected the FEL just a month ago.

Any suggestions?

Does the joystick have a lock out knob on the front? You have to pull it out and twist. If it does, maybe it was inadvertently shoved in. Just a guess...

Perhaps I'm not understanding your situation, or I'm have a blonde moment, but with the FEL disconnected, there should be no back pressure on the joystick to relieve. The only time I have to relieve back pressure with the joystick is when I remove the FEL, so I don't have back pressure in the hoses when I go to put it back on. Showcattle's idea seems like it could be the answer, although my older TC29 has no such feature. I guess the newer models are different. Take off the boot and check the linkage.

I think it is possible to be in hydraulic lock with a large temperature swing. If this is the case, loosening the the female quick connect fittings on the hydraulic lines to let the pressure off may be the best method. BTW: Your joystick would have to have nearly perfect valves to give such a hydraulic lock. Is this a fairly new tractor?

The tractor is about 3 years old. I did not find a locking mechanism on it but I am going to blead off and also remove the boot to look at here in a few. I will report back if I figure out what might be causing this. Strange if it was hydralic lock that it does it in all directions. Will take a look. Thanks for the suggestions.

I hate to have it taken in. The NH dealer charges me $150 each way and then the repair cost.

Just came back in from checking out the FEL. I still can not move the joystick. I did as said above in releasing the pressure with no luck. I pulled the boot and see no issues with that. I did get the FEL connected but nothing has changed. I guess I will be calling the dealer in the morning unless someone has another suggestion. Only 185 hours on it and should not have issues.

I have never heard of "hydraulic lock" keep a valve spool or joystick from moving, QD's yes-but a valve? No.

Almost has to be mechanical-something in the linkage taht connects the joystick to the valve is jammed or broken.

You stated:
I did not find a locking mechanism on it
almost every tractor has a way to mechanically lock the joystick from moving, You need to check your manual or go look again;)

Maybe your locking knob fell off but the locking pin is still there and in locked position?
Dave.

Dave, my tractor has a lock, but only only affects lift. Bucket curl/dump has no lock. What our tractors normally have with a joystick is a diverter valve. The diverter valve has two positions: one for tractors with no loader; one with tractors with a loader. I think I'd be tempted to rotate that valve to the non-FEL position and back to FEL just to make sure it is in the right position. I'm thinking that this problem is mechanical rather than a hydraulic lock and I'm just suggesting these hydraulic lock fixes because they are easy and don't require disassembly of the joystick.

All that said, I've attached two diagrams of the TC26DA joystick and its dual hydraulic valve. The joystick DOES have a lock as is shown by the assembly labelled "Item 1" in the first diagram. Also, on the joystick valve, there are two caps (item 34) that could be loosened to relieve any internal hydraulic lock, but for some reason, I don't think that will be necessary.

I called my dealer and told me that many of the FEL installed about the time I purchased my tractor had the handles screwed in too far. I backed out the handle 2 turns and all is well. Evidently with the handle screwed in so far it was bottoming out and preventing the valves from actuating. thanks for the help.
