Okay I have seen something and it took me a long time to screw up enough courage to tell anyone about it it but it is driving me nuts so here goes.

This was a living breathing creature of some sort. It had a body shape like a paper clip, oblong. I saw no recognizable head or legs, it's belly appeared to be flush with the ground. It was approx ten to twelve inches in length and roughly three inches wide and about two to three inches tall and moved at about the same rate as a centipede. I saw it from a moving vehicle, it started out into the road and the vehicle in front of me spooked it so it did a one eighty and went back down into the ditch. If there hadn't been six cars behind me doing sixty miles an hour I would have stopped immediately to see what it was or at least get a better look?

Anybody?

Wow, that's a weird one. Was this by any chance near fresh water? I'm thinking that it may have been some type of large salamander like a mud puppy. Mud puppys stay aquatic and have tiny legs. I don't know what it was doing out of water, unless a pond dried up.

How long ago was this? Was this in Florida? Cn you remember what color it was? What time of day?

It had to be that annoying little paperclip guy that pops up with on-screen help in MS-Word. Next time you see him, run him over for me /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

LMAO Rob, me too!

Rich, okay yes, Florida, yes near fresh water but primarily because there is fresh water all over the place due to so much rain. It was dark brown or black in color, and I saw it on Friday on my way to Sarasota.

Sounds like a shoe I lost the last time I was in Florida. Dimensions are about right. I'm just not sure about the part where it moves under its own power. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

remember that movie called tremors. At the end they were standing around wondering if they got them all. Well, the one that likely got away was pregnant.LOOK OUT!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It might have been a walking catfish.

Cindi, from what you said, I'll guess either a large salamander, as I originally thought, or the walking catfish that Don suggested. They'd probably look pretty similar if viewed from a moving vehicle, and either ( I think) would fit your description.

Actually, after viewing the link Don included, the walking catfish is probably even more likely.
