This past Tuesday afternoon we had a nasty storm roll through. Wifey said the wind and rain were so bad she couldn't see the road that's only about 100 yards from the house and she was thinking she might want to head for the basement. We had one length of aluminum trim blow off the house, and the trees took a beating. After work yesterday the neighbors (BIL's), one son and a friend from church all came to help. Everyone worked hard in the heat & humidity for 3 hours and it looks really good now. We had three tractors and 2-1/2 chain saws. Two Kubotas (Kubotae?) carried anything #2 Son didn't want for his fireplace to the pile, and the old Ford gathered up small stuff and leaf litter with a york rake. The help was very much appreciated.

Gotta love those Midwest storms. We lose stuff several times every year. The last couple of years, though, we've had a local tree service come out and do some serious trimming for us. They've raised the canopy level way up, which opened up a good portion of the front yard, and did a lot of dead-limbing higher up in the oaks that we had no hope of reaching. We've spent a fair amount of money on it, but they seem to fare better through the storms now, with only minor occasional damage.

Definitely good to have help, though, when it does happen.

I Hear You!

That same storm system dumped almost 2" of rain in a half hour at my location just north of you. It took 150 tons of modified to repair washouts on our private road. Spent Wednesday & Thursday spreading and grading. What a way to break in the new MX5800! Glad to have the extra HP though. My neighbor helped haul with his Ford 8N which made the job a bit easier. Teamwork is definitely a great thing when you maintain over a mile of private road.

Being hit from time to time with hurricanes we have seen some heavy clean up. Can be hard, hot, dangerous work. However it can be a great time of fellowship and great memories years later.

You know this tells you or your wife or both are well thought of. I would say both. kt

Extreme weather events are something we are all going to be dealing with more and more, not to mention hotter and hotter average temps. 2015 hottest year on record, being surpassed this year. Even Maryland has had some so-called 1000 year storm events recently, but I imagine that "rating" system is now worthless.

It was a real blessing to get the help. No chaos or drama. It was like everyone just meshed. It would have taken a very long time to do it myself. We still have a number of widowmakers and ragged-looking broken off limbs that will have to wait till the company's bucket truck is available.

A bud who on the DL from back surgery lives about 3 miles East of me and said the only thing they got was 1/4" of rain without the winds and lightning.
