I bought my Siromer (called a Stockman 284) a few years ago and it has given good service although it doesn't get hammered.
Just recently, I noticed that the gear change was a bit odd, - I carried on and later that day, there was a sudden crunching noise and the tractor stopped.
What had happened was that one of the two bolts that hold the gearstick in place under the gearbox lid, which should have been held in place with a tab washer, had worked loose, and dropped down into the gearbox, the inevitable happened, and two major gears shredded their teeth.
I have split the gearbox from the Tractor, and slowly stripped the unit down, I am at a stage where I need to get the lower shaft out so I can replace the lower Gear cog, it's got three gears on it.
Question is, how do I get that shaft out?
Do I have to strip down the differential mechanism and remove the crown wheel, - can anybody advise me please?
What I can say to anyone intending to buy one of these, is that is might be worth while spending a day going round all the bolts and studs on the engine and gearbox assembly, and tightening them up, I would even advise popping the top of the gearbox cover off, and checking that those two bolts have been fitted and tabbed properly, as it has become clear to me that some little Chinese worker, wasn't trying very hard on the day my Tractor was created!!
