Thought I'd share with you guys my wifes latest kill. She's taken five wild hogs so far, but until this morning, those are her only kills. Until we met, she was a girly girl more interested in shoping then the outdoors. Living out here with me in the country on our land has changed her. Now she'd rather sit out in the woods and watch the birds then go to the mall!!!
I killed a hog a few days ago in our back pasture. From previous experiences, we know that for the next couple days, coyotes will come out in the open during the day to eat the gut pile.
This morning, we kept looking back there to see if any coyotes showed up. At 8:30, two really good sized coyotes ran out into the open. Last night when I got home, I parked my truck so that it blocked our back door and gave a good rest to shoot from. For her birthday, I gave Steph her own Remington bolt action 30-06 rifle. It's very similar to mine and the same caliber. She's practiced with it and is a much better shot then I am. She's probably good enough to do well if she competed. She's an excellent shot!!!!
The coyotes were just over 150 yards out. She took her time waiting for a solid broadside shot. The coyotes were eating and fighting each other. One minute they were both standing still, the next they were rolling around, fighting each other. It was fun to watch!!!
Steph had some major butterflies. This was her first time to shoot a coyote and she was very excited about it. They killed our cat "socks" a few weeks ago, so this was also a revenge type thing. Her concentraction is amazing to see. When she fired, it just droped. The other one took off running straight towards us. It was so fast, and coming right at us, that it was hard to see it. At about 50 yards, I yelled and it turned to the side. The way it worked out, there was not a chance for a shot on that one with the trees and a rise in the dirt.
It's a good sized coyote. A female that weighed 40 pounds with a perfect coat. She was in heat, which suprised us.
The entire time that Steph was waiting for the shot, the kids were behind us watching. They have finally learned to be still and quiet. They were probably more excited then I was at the shot. Steph was estatic!!!!
Here's a few pics of her first Coyote.
