When I'm on my 4310 with e-hydro and accidentally put my big fat right foot on the forward and reverse pedals at the same time, the tractor refuses to move and won't reset itself no matter how long I wait. In order to get moving again, I have to shut off the key, wait a second or two and turn it back on. This apparently clears the error code, but I've read some posts on TBN by other owners that have said that the error should reset itself after a few seconds. This makes more sense to me, but is not the way mine works. The error code is short-long-long-long.

The tractor is a 2002 and I bought it used from a local JD dealer. He told me when I bought it about having to turn the key off after hitting both pedals, but I didn't know enough to question it at the time. Now I'm wondering if it was malfunctioning when I got it and if I should ask him to fix it.

Does anyone know if this was the maybe the way they were designed originally, and they saw what a dumb idea it was and changed it in later model years? If it was normal for that year, then I guess I can't complain... much.

So the question is - do I have a beef?

Tom

Later edit: Apparently I was wrong and the error code is long-short-short-short..

Mine is a 4720, new basically... it resets after just a few seconds if I hit both pedals.

The manual should describe what is right for your model. If you don't have the manual it is probably online.

Good luck

No need to 'beef' about it. Not the tractor's fault or Deere's. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It doesn't like going in both directions at once. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Maybe check with the dealer mechanics for their opinion and see if the computer needs to be reset. Hope you find out how it should work.

From the service manual:

Fault Code: 10
Flash Sequence: short long long long
Fault Cause: The calculated value for the coil resistance exceeds the valid range due to open or short circuit
Machine Response: No drive in either direction
Reset Action: Power recycled through off to clear error status

Hitting both pedals at once brings up Fault Code 9:

Fault Code: 9
Flash Sequence: long short short short
Fault Cause: Controller receives a command from both pedals at the same time
Machine response: No drive in either direction
Reset Action: Error status will reset when both commands return to zero

It sounds like the tractor is operating correctly for Fault Code 10. I would check for loose connectors which would provide an open circuit to the controller.

dmp37 -

Thanks for the fault code report. It sounds like I am remembering it wrong and it is really long-short-short-short. That would make more sense. I will check it when I get home, which will be quite a while, since I am 400 miles away and on my way to Arizona.

tom -

I have looked in the owner's manual but I haven't found anything about how it is supposed to reset. Maybe it's in there somewhere. I will be driving through the great state of Texas in a couple of days. Hope you have good weather for me.

beenthere-

Good idea to check with the dealer. I will do that, but I wanted to be armed with as much knowledge as I could before I talk to them. Thanks.

Tom,
What you describe is what my dealer told me to do if I stepped on both hydro pedals at the same time. I have stepped on both at the same time, but I have not had to shutt it off. As another Texastom said mine resets after a few seconds. It may have to do with how long both pedals are held down at the same time. The times I have done it was when I was backing up to hook up to an attachment & need to move foward a small amount.

There was a controller software upgrade for the earlier eHydros. This fixed the problem of it stopping all of a sudden and I believe the two pedal problem. Now I just wait a few seconds and it clears. Maybe yours never got done.

The dealer uses a PDA to update the software.

I don't think mine does that - I'll have to try to recreate the error and let you know what happens. Mine is an 03, and may have revised settings... I'll let you know.

Thanks, Steve, I would appreciate that.

Mine is a 4410 (basically a 4310 with slightly larger cylinders for a couple of more HP). I hit both pedals all the time, especially when looking backwards. But I reset in a couple of seconds. So I bet you should reset in a couple of seconds too. Seems like your dealer should be willing to fix this for you.
