Steering wheel turns beyond actual wheel turn limit.

Asking for a buddy....he has an LS tractor, and noticed the steering wheel will keep on turning left or right beyond the limits the wheels will actually turn, and wonders if there is something wrong with the steering if it does this ?

I asked "did it steer correctly when he turns the steering wheel back over the other way", and he said it did.....so maybe this is just something LS tractors do. Can't recall if my Yanmar does this, but pretty sure the steering wheel stops at the point the front wheels won't turn anymore. Surely there is a pressure relief valve in the hydraulics of the steering.

Anyway, information to relay to him would be appreciated.

Is the tractor HST? With HST steering?

There are threads here on TBN about HST steering wheels steering perfectly, yet the steering wheel doesn't 'centre' according to the 'logo'. My 4105 does that (random 'centre')... and my "Armstrong" D110 centres "correctly" according to the logo.

I asked the same question awhile back and the overwhelming response was that this is normal for LS tractors. My XG3037 does the very same thing.

My XU6168 does that, but I notice it much more at low RPMs. At PTO speed, it basically stops when the tires are at the stop.

They have Orbitrol steering valves, not linkages . Turned hard enough, the steering wheel can be forced to keep rotating .
