Steel siding/roofing from Lowes-pricing?

I'm planning a 16' x 32' x 12' high shed. My local Lowes has steel siding and roofing as follows:

36" x 12' 29 gauge corrugated siding panel (red) - $60.98 each

36" x 12' 29 gauge 5 v crimp roofing panel (silver) - $33.97 each

Since steel is the single largest cost of the project (more than lumber, the two overhead doors, etc...) I'd like to make sure that I'm getting the best price. Could I do better through another supplier?

Great question. You might want to check with other suppliers in your area (wherever that is).

I've always been able to beat the box store prices on roofing/siding metal by dealing directly with the two companies here that roll their own. They'll shape the metal off of big rolls and cut it to my measurements. They load it for me too!

If you've got a Menards, check them, especially when they do 11% off. I originally got metal from a local supplier because they were good about helping with all the special trim and packaging everything. Then their prices went up and they put really high minimum orders for non-commercial customers. So I go to Menards and get it cheaper.

I'm not sure exactly which panels you're looking at. My local supplier is currently quoting $2.55/linear foot for the standard 5 rib panels, cut to whatever size I need.

One other thing I found was to look at the total, including trim pieces and screws. I found that some suppliers would be lower on the per foot prices, but higher on the trim and hardware making the total cost nearly the same.

There are national suppliers like ABC that will ship directly to you, and the pricing and sizing (made to your specs) will almost certainly beat Lowes. Just be sure to get the order details worked out so that you can get everything shipped at once to minimize shipping costs. When I did the roof over my pier, I ordered the panels, ridge caps, eave/gable fascias, screws, adhesive, etc all at the same time. I was able to go with heavier 26ga panels and still came out ahead on cost.

Yep this is the way to go-

Large or small building/contractor/lumber supply stores will work with you to spec the metal (say you don’t want horizontal seems in the roof or vertical seems in the siding), spec your lumber and truss order, spec your hardware (screws, hold downs, anchor bolts etc), spec the doors and windows and then deliver it to your place.

Think like a contractor and shop where they would shop if they were building a new building.

Each time I did my buildings with metal roofs (4), the metal roofing suppliers have been cheaper than Lowes or HD. By a good amount. Plus it always seemed the box stores never had enough panels, trim, or accessory stuff that I needed. You will have less hassle and get what you need from a true metal supplier.
