I have a Craftsman 42 inch riding mower with a 15.5 HP Kohler engine. The AMP gauge started showing zero charge while running at normal RPM. I traced out the wiring and found a shorted connector which is attached to the stator brake. Is this (Stator brake) something like a dynamic brake on electric motors? And can I do without it? note: After removing the shorted terminal the AMP gauge is back to normal.
