I have done this a few times on other equipment. I normally just check it over good looking for anything that could cause a problem (belts, hoses, bird nest, bad wires). I always drain all the old fuel and replace the fuel filter(s). Take a strong battery with you and a pair of good jumper cables.

Remember, the more fuel you put in it, the easier it is to bleed. Once you get it started let it idle for a while and check the oil pressure. It may skip and rattle for a few minutes but should clear up.

i agree..

if you were worried about hydro lock, you could pop the injectors loose.. etc.. roll her over once, and then retighten and start bleeding her.

I see you're down in Georgia ( warm temperatures and high humidity) so besides what the other guys said, pay attention to your fuel supply. It's likely contaminated with water from condensation and may have bacteria growing in it. It might be prudent to pull the tank valve and strainer and drain and flush the tank. I'd consider replacing the fuel filters also as they may be gunked up.

We just went through this on a tractor that was sitting for 10 years. It cranked up fine. After it idled we spead the engine up and it would not slow down. The internals of the governor were gummed up. Anything that is spring return would stick when actuated. The two main ones were the governor internals, and the brakes. The brakes stayed locked up until we pried them back. We took the cover off the governor and cleaned that out.
