I don't think he was out brush hogging if I'm reading this correctly....
Looking for suggestions. I was hooking up a brush hog today. Had been running tractor about an hour with no issues. shut it off to hook up and now, no start.
Couple of things to check:
First Note:
On a NH TC35D (40 & 45), when any one of these 3 things occurs, fuse #2 blows, or the neutral safety or PTO safety circuits are open the starter motor will not crank; so these are what I would check first.
1st Check: Fuse #2
Is your PTO Dash Light lit-up with the key on & the PTO lever in the off position? If so, then 99% chance fuse #2 is blown. as
@Hughman mentioned..
When Fuse #2 blows the PTO light will come on and stay on regardless of where the handle is.
If the PTO light is on, as stated above, replace Fuse #2 - it is under the instrument cluster - 2nd fuse from the left (7.5amp)
2nd Check: PTO is Not Engaged or PTO safety switch out of adjustment or Bad Switch
Make sure the PTO lever is in the OFF Position
PTO safety switch is on the left side it's up high in the front of the rear fender well. You can see the switch by moving the PTO lever & watching the linkage, make sure it is aligned correctly
You can bypass the switch to testing, by jumping across the leads.
3rd Check: Neutral Safety Switch
The neutral safety switch is on the left side of the transmission housing, you can get to it by looking under the platform. It is a round cylinder that has a Hex head base with 2 wire leads that have bullet quick connectors on them. You can bypass the switch to testing, by jumping across the leads.
If none of the above resolve the issue then, I can give a few thing to check from there... but this is where I would start...
Also on these NH tractors the
seat switch & parking brake circuit will NOT stop the engine from turning over / cranking; it will still turn over the starter & the engine, but tractor will NOT start. This is because they shut off power to the fuel solenoid. You would have a cranking engine with a no start situation if it was the seat switch or parking brake circuit. so I think you can rule those out.
