Starter troubles on a 1070 - help!

Have a '92 107 with 1148 hours. Great tractor, but lately the starter hasn't been engaging the first time, every time. I have gotten to the point of gritting my teeth every time I turn the key just in case I hear the screech!

Is there any remedy other than replacing the starter? Also, what kind of $$$ are we looking at for a starter replacement?
