Stainless Steel Spark Arrestor Chimney Cap?

I've been extremely pleased with this Chimney Cap in Stainless because it mounts inside the flue and needs no lip to secure.

CMI - Flue Guard (Last item at bottom of page)

Contacted the factory and learned there are no plans for another run in Stainless... just regular steel which can last 10 years +/-

Factory said there could be some in inventory around the country... but did not know.

Nope, but I like your idea ours is steel and is rusting out. Got some pretty good rust streaks down the roof and on the siding next to the chimney. Been looking for something to replace it with, but so far I haven't been able to find stainless locally

Some of the Stainless I installed from the same company was back in 1993 at a condo complex... all look good and no problems.

The non-stainless just has to have a shorter life and sometimes 10 years is it.

My next thought is trying to make some up myself... just need the stainless expanded metal and a little sheet metal for the cap...

Only thought is I'm sure somewhere there must be a couple just sitting on a shelf somewhere.

If you chimney has a flue lip or the flue protrudes above the brick most of the outside clamp style will work... it's just I have some that have no lip... so either all custom or inside mount.

I have a stainless chimney cap. Put it on when I built the house here in '83 and its still as good as the day I bought it. Got it from local Ace Hardware.

Im confused.i just typed stainless steel chimney caps in google and get LOTS of hits.

99% of them clamp to the outside of the chimney flue and 99% of the chimneys have at least 2" of flue extending above and beyond the brick and mortar... so a couple of set screws pressing against the outside of the flue does the job...

Unfortunately... I seem to run into chimneys where the top is flat or slopes ever so slightly away from the clay oval flue pipe...

The simple alternative for flat tops is to use a cap with clamps that extend into the chimney where the smoke comes out...

I just bought the non-stainless model at Home Depot today... noticed it is now made in China where before both types were made in California... Fire Marshal wants a cap and so there will be one... just not stainless for now.

Picked one up yesterday for $60 and change.

The manufacturer said the lifetime stainless was an insignificant portion of sales volume so no more production runs.

It could be I'm not a typical customer in that paying extra for better quality material has never been a problem.

My next little project is to pull the original 1961 Electric Service from the failing pine tree at the cabin... as the tree has grown the last 54 years it has deformed the service and wire leading from the main to the cabin...

Never seen anything like it... found the #10 wire from the tree mounted main to the inside house sub-panel fused with two 60 amp cartridge fuses... no telling how long it's been like this... swapped them out with two 35 amp cartridge fuses I had on the truck... and turned off the power before I left.
