Got a L3400 Hydro.

Looking for a way to spread the wheels for max stability, mostly for mowing.

Running R4's and some parts of my property are off camber hills. A steadier stance would be a good thing. At least more reassuring.

The owners manual I have really doesn't address this in as much detail as I would like.

What have you guys done??

Many Thanks

On most of the models the rear hubs can be attached to the axle at different widths. There is a pin that holds the hub to the axle and by removing it the hub can slide in and out, allowing the width of the rears to be set. Most of the time the dealer will set them up all the way out.

There are other methods to widen the stance of a tractor (including adding a second wheel and tire assembly), but that gets pretty pricey.

I have an L3000DT and I think your set-up on the L3400 is similar to mine. Just month ago I moved my rear wheels to the widest position. The difference this made in the tractors stability is amasing.

I believe your rear wheels have a Z shaped bracket on the rim that the hub is bolted to with 4 bolts. Should this be the case you can unbolt the rim at this joint and swap the right wheel with the left. Do not turn the wheels around as the thread is directional, but just unbolt one side and move it over to the other.

Your rear wheels maybe be filled with ballast whether calcium, beet juice or whatever which will make them heavy. I raised the rear of my tractor and placed it on jack stands so the the wheels were only a half inch off the floor.
I had to wiggle the tire in and out of position a little but they were pretty easy to line back up.

Once you get the bolts started they will pull things into place. Tigthen the bolts good and tight and it would be wise to check them after a few hours use. I used a large breaker bar to loosen them and they were squeaky tight, they went back on the same way.

The dealer advised against changing the width of the front wheels. With the rear wheels set to the widest position they track about 8" wider each side than before.
