As I am mechanically disinclined, this may be a stupid question coming from a relative newbie. I have a B2710 and am looking at some sprayers on sale at TSC in the local newspaper insert. The sprayers have 12 volt pumps. Does that mean that these pumps work off of the electrical system of the tractor or a separate 12 volt battery? If the tractor electrical system, how do you wire it on a B2710?

Briarwood,

That is exactly right. You have to wire it into the electrical system. I am not familiar with Kubota much so maybe someone else could help you. You could just wire it directly to the battery but make sure you put a fuse in it. You will also want a switch someplace convienient in the line even though there is a shut off on the pump.

But if I was you and you have the funds to afford it I would look at upgrading to the one with the PTO pump on it. I have the electrical one and really am not happy with it. I even got the one with the larger electrical pump, it does ok and that is about it. I am just kind of sorry I tried saving some money.

Just something to think about.

John, my brother had an electric sprayer with a 50 gallon tank, hose & nozzle, and 8' boom that he used behind his Kawasaki Mule. So when I had the B7100, I ran electric wire from the battery, through an inline fuse, to a toggle switch I mounted on the fender of the tractor, then to the proper plug to just plug in the sprayer when I used it with my tractor. You can do the same on the B2710, or if you have not added worklights, and don't intend to do so, you can use the connector under the right side of the seat for your electrical power. It's already fused, and only hot when the key is on. Of course you'll probably also want to add a switch for the sprayer.

Yes, it will work off of the tractors electrical system or a battery. The way I did mine was, I wired a on/off switch on the tractor then ran it to a accessory plug (cigarette lighter). I then put a lighter plug on the cord from the pump. By doing it this way I can turn it on/off from the tractor seat and it just unplugs when I'm done.

I have a 25 gallon 12V sprayer. The PTO versions are probably better, but I couldn't justify the cost difference. Mine works great - plenty of pressure for what I use it for (mostly Roundup along the fence lines and such).

I have a connector (fused) that is hooked straight up to the battery. When I'm using the sprayer on my Kubota I put it in the FEL and strap it in. That way I can adjust the FEL to make sure the pickup tube is immersed (handy when the tank starts to get empty).

I also have the same type of connector on my JD lawn tractor so I can easily use the sprayer with either tractor. On the JD I put it in my little utility wagon.

On mine, there is a switch installed in the wire (which is about 10 feet long) that runs from the battery to the sprayer. Very simple wiring setup...and of course, the sprayer only sprays stuff out when I squeeze the trigger on the boom regardless as to whether the switch is on or off.

Does anyone have experience with northern tool's electric pumps? I looked at a 5 GPM one for about $100. I need to do occasional irrigation / spraying of a few small fruit trees. The PTO pumps scare me a bit due to their high pressure and all. Has anyone dealt with the PTO high pressure issue? Could you put a "Y" on the outlet and recirculate the water back to the tank, maybe with a valve to regulate pressure...? I read on another forum about hoses blowing up etc....

Apparently you're looking at the Flojet pump, Item#228771-C178, and you may notice that most of what Northern sells is the Flojets and ShurFlo. Both brands are popular in both RVs and in spray rigs for insecticides and herbicides. I've owned RVs with both brands in the past; good pumps, rarely have a problem, but easily rebuilt if you do.

Yup. The 228771 is the one I'm looking at. Maybe a 50 gallon tank (156894) too. Sure glad I got the generator upgrade for the 2410.

I had one of the Flojet pumps in the RV the last time I went to Alaska, and while I was there, it got very weak; worked but very low pressure. Since I knew that I had gotten a lot of sand in my water tank (RVers need to use a water filter in Arizona /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif), I figured some sand had damaged the pump, so I bought a rebuild kit from a place in Anchorage; cost less than $12. And when I opened the pump up, the problem was simply one screw that had gotten loose /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif; didn't need the kit, but since I had the pump apart, I just went ahead and put all the new parts in it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
