I did a quick search but decided to start a fresh thread in case of changes in opinions anyway. My 11 year old original battery seems like its about done, I am willing to fork over the $$$ for a better battery or should I stick with what Massey has on it now(if I can find it)? I have to keep it plugged into a battery tender all the time now and will only get one long crank these days.

I do have extra lights, and use the battery for my Snowblower chute deflector and chute rotation. I dont want cheap because its too important. Much obliged...

Most batteries today are not as good a they uses to be...It sort of our societies throw away thing, if it lasts to the end of warranty period its a miracle..... There is no guarantee that a battery with Massy on side will will be any better than one with "elcheapo" auto parts label....

I got the click of death in my old Toyota truck this morning. I put a Diehard Platinum AGM in 9/2011. This thing is never on a charger and is always outside. I take this truck a lot to my cabin, so I need a good battery. I am happy with the battery. I paid $200 for it in 2011, that is only $22 per year. Die Hard stop having Energy systems make that battery. So I am going with an interstate AGM. The price is now $280. If the battery last for 9 years, my cost goes up to $31 per year. Still good in my book.

Thanks for the quick replies-
I had a bad experience with an interstate on my garden tractor-I replaced the original with the interstate and the interstate only lasted 4 years, the origional Husqvarna lasted 10 years...paid alot of money for the name for nothing on that one so no more interstates on my equipment. Im willing to try an Autocraft as I have had good luck with them on my 16 year old Jeep Grand Cherokee. My first Autocraft replaced the 2nd Autocraft which I had for 7 years after replacing the Mopar that was original of 5 years. So far the newish Autocraft is doing very well 4 years later..Thats if they even sell one my tractor size.

For now I will keep checking this post to see what else may come up. I maintain my batteries as best as one could, keeping battery tenders on them all the time.

I have to agree with Dale here, after many years of selling Interstate batteries, and being a loyal customer, my last two disappointed me. One of which was in my GC. I have also gotten this sentiment from others. So, they are not what they used to be.

I replaced my GC battery last time, with a Deka battery made under the O'Riley name. But, it seems they are now made by Johnson Controls. So, who knows. :confused3:

The Legend batteries from NAPA have always been good. I think I would try there.

As addition to my comment above, I have a AGM battery in my "dune buggy" that may be 15 years old and still starts it...... Also put big Odyssey AGM in Jeep quite a few years ago (because of winch use and not wanting to be stranded in back woods) and its still going ..... Both rather expensive ($320 for Jeep), but for the endurance thing I believe AGM battery is tops....

My OEM 2004 Kubota BX Deka battery is still on the job... says a lot.

We were a retailer for Interstate for decades but noticed the batteries were not holding up as well so dropped them... even in my the family vehicles.

Had two warranty claims rejected after never having a single warranty claim... one was my own battery in the shop truck... Interstate said that battery was not retailed so no warranty...

In High School had a nice sideline going... just about all my teachers and coaches had me get/install Interstate for them...

Also a factor is our jobber lived and breathed batteries... hot shot deliveries, rotated stock and just all around great company that even supported kids sports... he was forced out and was quite upset about it having built up his clientele and he said there were changes underway to cheapen the line but still offering the prorated warranties...

It's not debateable that an AGM battery lasts longer. Especially in a high vibration environment like a GC engine compartment.

The problem is, you can always buy two good quality, regular batteries for less than a typical AGM battery, so it's not a cost effective option.

If you drive an ambulance, where it's life and death if it doesn't start then AGM makes sense to me. On the other hand, I know a guy who owns an ambulance service, and he doesn't use them. :D
