Any one know about these? I bought the TX1 just before X-mas and today's the last day I have to return it, should of asked earlier.

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0908/09080602sonydsctx1wx1.asp

It's all touch screen, super thin takes pics in very low light, has a bunch of other cool features, easy to use etc.

But though the pics look decent on the screen, the quality is not all that great when put on computer for viewing on monitor.
The WX1 is not touch screen, I would of liked to compare them to each other but they only sell that one online.

One of the camera people at Best buy said they had complaints with other touch screen cameras having poor picture quality, but not Sony, but maybe a techno issue with the touch screens regardless of maker???

Short battery life is another problem, with touch screen, but I can live with that with another battery.

I like the ease of use of this but some of the pics aren't any better than my old 4MP cool pix.

Any comments or opinions?

Thanks, JB.

We were recently looking for a small camera (to compliment the wife's Canon DSLR, thus smaller than the one you are looking at) and some of the criteria that we had were:
  • Size: Small (pocket sized perferred)
  • Price Under $150
  • Viewfinder: Manual viewfinder preferred (for taking pictures outside without the LCD getting washed out, or to save on batteries, shutting off the viewfinder gives you a faster flash recharge time and drops battery usage down.)
  • LCD: Not very picky on this one
  • Batteries: AAs OR Canon NB-2LH (which we have several of from the DSLR, thus we could keep some on hand and charged up)
  • Pixel rating: 8+MP (by the time you get that high, the glass quality makes more of a difference in picture quality than more pixels)
  • Brand: Canon preferred, but not the only one we looked at.
  • Manual Control: Prefer to have manual mode available for the wife who likes to use it.
I narrowed it down to the Nikon CoolPix L20 and the Canon PowerShot A1100IS. I found some reviews online:
Nikon COOLPIX L20 budget point-and-shoot camera review: design, controls, lens, stabilisation, screen, menus, drive modes | Cameralabs
Canon PowerShot A1100 IS budget point-and-shoot camera review: design, controls, lens, stabilisation, screen, menus, drive modes | Cameralabs

Based on these and input from Katie, we went and looked at those two cameras and we will be getting the Canon.
It does more of what we want to do, it is a Canon, and it felt better holding it than the Nikon one did.

Again, we are probably looking at a different range of cameras than you are, but that is what we found.
