Have had my 2210 for a year now and I love everything about it. However, I bought the 47 inch two stage snow blower and have to say I am a little disappointed. The second stage blows the snow great, but I keep pushing a pile of snow in front of me that keeps getting bigger the further I go...almost seems like the auger (first stage) isn't turning fast enough. I have tried going slower, going faster, etc. And I am running at full throttle. This effect happens regardless of how deep the snow is and how wet or dry it is...it always happens. My nephew has the same setup and he has the same problem.
Anyone know of something that may be set up differently?

Dave I was haveing the same thing happen with mine the last snow. It was wet also. When I was cleaning the blower up and putting it away I discovered I had sheared a shearpin on one side. I got the tractor and blower in Jan. and didn't get to give it a good workout this year. But I didn't have any trouble the first time I used it. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Dave I agree with Charlie, the shear pin. You are describing the same symptoms that I have when I break a shear pin on my walk behind snow blower.

Welcome to the forum.
Now you have to pray for more snow so you can test it with the auger working. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Add another vote for shear pin. I haven't broken one on the 47" but felt pretty silly having trouble with my 29" walk-behind when my wife said "Dear, do you know only one side of that front thingy is turning" /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. When the snow's been wet, yes, I have to slow down some with the 47", but I had no trouble with eating any snow I wanted to this winter.

Dave,
I have a 47" running on a X595 and it works super. This past winter, we had a lot of snow in MA. One storm dumped over 20" and I ended up doing lots of driveways for neighbors. It does a 200ft driveway like nothing -- throwing show 50-60' away. Check your shearpins like everyone advised and let us know if that doesn't show a problem.

The effect I am describing is happening with all shear pins in place and functional. I did break shear pins on one side or the other a couple of times and the effect was immediately recognizeable to me. Since I set up this blower on my own, rather than have the dealer set it up, I just wonder if I am missing some adjustment??
By the way, on the topic of shear pins, when I first started using this snow blower it vibrated like crazy...I am maintaining a 1000' grass driveway back to my cabin that is very uneven. The vibration even broke a couple of shear pins without me hitting anything. When I finally decided to sit down and troubleshoot the problem, I realized the universal joints on the two drive shafts weren't lined up the way the manual states. When they aren't lined up, they "fight" each other when going over uneven terrain, causing the vibration. It took all of a minute to fix the problem by lining up the universal knuckles and the vibration went away.
Now I just have to find out why I am building up snow in front of me.
Thanks for all the responses.

DaveK,

Although I have the 46" Single Stage, when I fooled around with the driveshaft orientation, it made no difference in vibration levels (which certainly weren't enough to shear pins). I also discussed this with another poster who does have the 47", and could discern no difference. If you are getting that much vibration, I would look at the set-up, a bearing or something like that.

Have you observed or had someone observe the auger turning when the unit is engaged? What you describe is not understandable if the auger is rotating in the right direction.

Can you rotate the auger auger by hand when the unit is disengaged but still hooked up to the tractor?

It seems like someone else had a problem with the the gear box rotation on a unit they were swapping to a new tractor. My 47" works like a charm unless I have the go peadal all the way to the floor in 12" or more snow.
