Hey all. It's time for me to do the 50 hour break-in service on my Mahindra 4530 4WD tractor. I just completed the 50 hour service a couple of weeks ago on my Mahindra 1526 4WD. On the 1526, I changed the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, hydraulic transmission filter, and changed the fluid in the front axle. I used hydraulic fluid even though the manual called for gear oil in one place and hydraulic fluid in the other. I saw on YouTube where others used hydraulic fluid as well.

Here's my confusion. The 4530 says to change the transmission fluid (10.3 gallons) and to only clean the strainer at 50 hours. Nothing about changing the filter. The other confusing part is that on the 4530, it calls for 80W90 gear oil in the front axle and the manual says to only check the level at 50 hours and only change it every 1,000 hours. Is this correct? My 1526 had me change the front axle fluid at 50 hours and then again at 200 hours and used hydraulic fluid.

Do EXACTLY what your service manual calls for. Remember the tractor is under warrantee. Deviation from what the service manual calls for could be grounds for warrantee rejection.

On my 4540 I cleaned the strainer at 150 hrs. I haven't changed anything in the axle. If you like to watch NASCAR then use gear oil. If not, then hydraulic fluid works as well.

Typical for manuals that went through language translation. I had a New Holland Boomer series made in Korea that had conflicting lubrication and maintenance schedules in the factory manual. I just looked online for MFG info to compare to conflicting info in the NH manual.

Normally its good advice to do exactly what your manual requires. But in this case, if you want to change the hydraulic filters at 50hrs when you do the transmission fluid change, your tractor will not complain.
