When I was 18 and working on a farm, the farmer put me in a situation just like that except in a pole barn. That was the day I learned to use independent rear brakes. And it was geared.

Ha, I've been there with a bushhog on my old geared 2040. Took a WHILE to "austin powers" it outta there. If I'd had a loader I might have just dropped it, turned around, picked up the implement and drove it someplace clear.

Geared tractor would just be more of a PIA in that situation, slamming the gear lever back and forth and whatnot.
