I'm still a slight newbie when it comes to tractor equipment and I had a few obscure questions:

1. I've always wondered what the "R"actually stood for like for R-1, R-2, etc. Can anyone tell me? All I know is that the "R" tires means that it uses the drive axle of the tractor.

2. Does anyone know what the actual size of the typical space between lugs for R-1 ag tires?

3. R-2 tires have the widest spacing between lugs, but does anyone know the exact measurements?

Thanks!

I don’t know what the R stands for, but I can tell you with certainty that you won’t find any specific dimensions. There are countless ag tire designs on the market, all with their own tread spacing. Even two tires of the same model but different size will have different lug spacing.

R = "Rear" tractor

R-1 Regular Tread, used on the drive wheels for general farming

R-1W Wet traction tread, used on drive wheels in wet or moist soil

R-2 Deep Tread (Rice & Cane) sometimes called rice and cane tires, used in very wet muddy conditions, rice farming and sugar cane

R-3 Shallow Turf Tread, used on the drive wheels in sandy soils, orchards, highway mowing, etc.

R-4 Industrial tractor tread, used for light industrial service
