Memorial Day is a time to reflect upon the tens of thousands of our war heroes whom didn't come home alive.

It was the American intervention and war heroes that turned the tide in WWII.

Also a great day to thank a vet for their service to our great country.

Thank you all! Salute!

Many thanks to all our service men, many of whom gave their lives during peace time as my grandfather did 100 years ago while serving in the army in the Panama Canal Zone as we were just finishing it up.

I just cruised through the Panama Canal and I cast a rose to the waters in remembrance of my grandfather and all the other US soldiers who died there during its construction.

Executive Mansion,
Washington, Nov. 21, 1864.

Dear Madam,--

I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

A. Lincoln

On memorial day in particular, but also on most any day I remember to honor my uncle Lt. Thurber C. Raymond, who died in September 1944 near Liege Belgium. When enjoying any of the many fabulous gifts of life we enjoy in this country, walks, food, love of friends, family, grandkids, I think how much He would have enjoyed any one of them. I am thankful often.

My family and friends that have served all returned, even a couple who spent time in POW camps WWII. I am always thankful to them.

But today, my thanks goes out to those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice.
