Solution to BX 3PH Shortcomings???

Hi,

I wanted to use my PHD on my BX2200 the other day but couldn't...the 3PH was just a little too small...

I looked at my B2910 and thought that I might be able to adapt the extendable lower lift arms to the BX2200 and make it work better for attaching normal implements, as the B2910 arms are a couple inches longer.

Then reading this thread made me think this might be the solution:

Seems like these things add about 3 to 4 inches of length to the lower link arms. This should cause whatever is hooked to them to raise higher. The design of these things would also make hook up of implements easier.

I would not be using the bx2200 for most things that require a 3ph, I have the B2910 for that. But there are times when I would like to use the bX2200 rather than the B2910, say for example if I have my backhoe on the bigger tractor and want to dig one post hole or a couple at most...

Am I on the right track here? Shoot some holes in my logic please and save me a couple hundred bucks!!!

The specs listed on Pat's website say that there needs to be a 4 inch straight back portion of the draft links for this coupler to mount. Is there that much space on the BX links?

I'm inside and it's dark out now...but I doubt there is more than a couple inches straight behind the end of the ball unit and the bend in the arm... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

On previous posts, folks drilled the 3 pt arms and moved the connecting link positons. This allowed for more lift and doesn't cost anything but time. Probably gives as much or more lift than those do-hickies /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nope, I don't have four inches available, just 2.5 measured from the center of the ball. I've attached a photo I took this morning...

Interesting! That certainly would be an easy solution to getting more height. I must have forgot about those posts as I had no idea I would ever own a bx back when/if I read them... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was also thinking extra length would give a little more spread at the ends...but more so, that having a lift-up-and-close type attachment would not require as much spread of the arms as the standard ball, which requires spreading wider than the tips of the pins on the implement.

In any case...doubt the quick attach thingees will work on a bx. No only is there just 2.5 inches from the center of the ball at the place on the arm where a tab for the swing limiters is welded, but also the link arm itself is only made from 1/2 by 2.5 inch stock...

I may contact the manufacture anyway, to see if any new models are in the works. With all the sub compacts out there, I would think there may be a market for something that increases the capability of those cat 0.9 3-point hitches... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Another solution is an alternate attachment point on the PHD for the upper arm. Many of them are not positioned right for the BX, but those that have multiple points often can be used. I'm trying to envision things, but I think you need a point closer to the tractor to get the extra lift. I bought a Woods 1120 PHD which is sized for my BX, so I can't be sure of all of this. (The downside to that PHD is it is limited to about 30" depth)

For some reason I want to believe that someone installed the longer B2910 lower link arms [extendable ones] on a bx...do you happen to remember that, but chance?

May be wishful thinking on my part...perhaps if we get a few rainy days in a row I will try a swap and see what happens... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
