Solar lighting for walking trails

I have about 400' of walking trail (along the edge of a meadow, with woods on one side) that I'd like to illuminate enough for safe walking in the pre-dawn/late evening. I don't want to use solar spots if I can find an alternative. I used some single LED solar landscape lights from the local box store a couple of winters ago. Deer or some animal kept knocking them over and they weren't tall enough to work in a decent snow. I'd also prefer motion detection so the lights aren't on at all times.

Has anyone found a durable solar landscape light? With motion detection?

My other alternative is to buy a solar setup large enough to power a long string of low voltage lights. Not sure where to start there.

Any thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

we use the one dollar lights I can get at wall mart each spring on our pool deck for ambient lighting. I drilled a hole in the top of the railing and have them all the way around year round. If they are in the full sun they will last all night. You can mount them off the ground on any tree around to avoid the snow etc. they have lasted two years so far.

I use the solar motion spots around the house and shop here. They light about 60 feet out. They are mounted on the shop and house, and am planning to mount a couple on fence posts in the garden area this winter. I have been buying them at about 20 bucks each, when they come up on special, and they have replaceable Ni-MH batteries.
