Need a solar fence charger for horses. I have had one from Tractor Supply and not happy with it. It needs to have a long reserve battery due to cloudy days and at least a 10 mile rating. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

We've had this one for about four years, works great. Had to replace the battery once.

Another possibility is to just use a 12v fence charger and a deep cycle battery. I had a setup like that and only had to bring in the battery and charge it once a month or less.

Doing this now with a P20 Patriot 2.0 joule unit. The marine/rv battery lasts about 18-days on a full charge.
Harbor Freight sells a battery trickle charger for about $12. It's good for these types of batteries. If you got the coupon, then they are $9.

Which ever unit you buy, do spend the extra money for the lightning arrester, and install per directions. I bought the best Zareba TSC had, but no lightning arrester. Within two weeks it quit working. I wrote the company a pretty nasty letter,and a company rep asked me to send it to them to see what the problem was.
Circuit board was toast, due to a lightning strike, but we had no storms in the area. There had been one nearby, within 2 miles a couple of days before. The rep asked how close the fence was to a power line. I told him within 75'. He said it will arc across that far, and that's what apparently toasted it.
Can't complain all that much as he offered to replace it with an exact model. I told him no more solar models, so he sent me a new top of the line AC unit, that TSC doesn't even handle. Been working fine for the last 6 years now.
