Soil Conditioner For A Skid Steer?

Hey guys. I am wondering if any one has experince using a soil conditioner on a skid steer ?. I am looking to break up my old bumpy lawn and re slope it and smooth it out. I'm also wondering if a rototiller would work better? I have attached pictures of the lawn

It depends on your wallet I guess,

Earth moving requires a dozer, a transit, and two people to run the transit and stick.
if you rent a skid loader you need to shell out for the stone burrier attachment rental too and fuel.
And dont forget its a daily rental for both the skid loader and the stone burrier.
You may just be worlds ahead by renting a Merry Tiller and then leveling later with the flat edge of a steel rake.
It all depends on what the equipment rental place has and how much time you have and your wallet.
I would check with the local farm equipment dealer and see if anyone around has a tractor and rototiller that you could hire for a day to fix the mess you have there.

It takes a lot of equipment to fix a lawn including a core aerator, dethatcher, and a lawn sweeper to pick up the dead thatch.

Do you have a Skid Steer and a tractor now?

Be more precise what you mean by a 'soil conditioner' which could be almost anything.

Cannot determine from your picture how rough the lawn is ~~no scale.

Seems like this is work best suited to tractor Three Point Hitch mounted implements.

Before using a PTO powered Roto-tiller behind a tractor most would scalp the area with a Bush Hog or burn the vegetation down with Glycophosphate/RoundUp, so grass will not clog the tiller tines. Scalping, the grass may regenerate with only light reseeding.

Then you would need to roll several times, seed, then roll again.

Hello I should have been more clear. I own a skid steer but not a tractor. I can rent any attachment for it now. The soil conditioner is almost like a Harley rake. Kind of like a mulcher but not as extreme. The lawn is just bumpy and rutted in some spots

I would think a Harley Rake would work well AFTER scalping the surface with some kind of mower, perhaps just a regular lawn mower. You will have to choose the "right moment". Do not cultivate wet soil, soil needs to be moist but not wet.

Read the archive threads so determine was has been successful for others.

If Massey 1135 in your profile is a Skid Steer, rather than a tractor, add that information.


You would know better than I if small wheels on your Skid Steer, relative to a tractor, will rut the ground further. A tracked Skid Steer would be fine.

A BIG YES! I had a T190 Bocat and bought a Bobcat Soil Conditioner (Harley Rake) and used it for the exact reason you stated above. It is definitely the right tool for your job. They work awesome. I can mow full speed whereas before I had the bumpiest yard around. Creates an amazing smooth seedbed and yard. I found a good deal on my soil conditioner. Used it for what I needed then sold it for $1k more than I paid for it.
