Can anyone here point me in the right direction for a good soft sided water bed. My wife and I have had a water bed for 20 years. We gave it to our son and bought an air bed. I just loved the thing and got the best sleep I could ever have. I woke up every morning feeling relaxed and well slept. So what am I complaining about? my wife just hated the thing and when our 90 day trial came up we had to send it back (it was the manley thing to do you know?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif). So then we went out and got ourselve the best possible mattress we could find. Now two years later we just don't like the thing and it is falling apart. I has a warranty on it yet but we are going to get it warranteed out and then give to my son. However, in looking at beds we ran across the soft sided water beds and both really like them. However, we are not sure we like the guy or the company that has them in our area and would like to do some research on what brand is the best. I have done searches for comparisons and can't come up with anything other than each company saying theirs is the best.

So any pointers or experiences would be appreciated.

Can't make any recommendations about what brand to buy, but I can tell you a funny story about one. We had a soft sided king size water bed that had two separate water chambers ..... one for each side. One morning my wife got up and her nightgown was damp. She attributed it to night sweats and "change of life" days. I merely suggested that she go to the doctor and be checked out. Her response was, "I will wait a couple of days to see if it happens again.". The next night the same and the following night also was the same. That morning, she decided to call the doctors office for an appointment and called me at work to tell me about it. I suggested that she meet me after the appointment, because I wanted to go shopping with her. When she arrived and told me that the doctor said that there was nothing wrong with her, I told her that it is time to go shopping for a new mattress because the old one had leaked.... It was a very quiet ride home... Now we can laugh about it, but at the time, she didn't think it funny. She kept changing the sheets, but never realized that the moisture would wick up from the bottom. The moral of the story is ...... Don't keep a secret about a leaking water bed!!!!!!!

Oh, that's awful! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One Friday the 13th, my wife and I were at a dinner party, I got sick and we had to leave. On the way to pick up the kids, we hit a deer with the car. When we finally got home, I was crawling to bed when I stepped in a wet carpet. The full wave waterbed mattress had sprung a leak and the liner had failed. The matress had failed because the heater had burned up and melted a hole in the mattress, then tripped the breaker. I had to drain the bed while I was sick.... But, the next day we cleaned it up, wnet out and purchased a set of drawers for underneath and a new mattress and filled 'er back up. We love our waterbed. 18 years now. 94-96 degrees year round.

As for soft sided water beds, my parents had one and really liked it. We gave it away when they passed away. I don't have a good source on-line, but here is where they bought it from locally.

Well dont buy one with all the seperate tubes, they move around too much, and distort the foam sides, you can never get them to the right equal level, and when not if they leak they are a pain in the butt, not the best bed I ever had, I will never own one again, also Im looking to get a new mattress, I skimped on the last one, and although it looks brand new, it is tough on the back, and worn out /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif, I'll go with a premium next time around

Hey Moss and Mopar,

Thanks for the information. I have contacted comfort sleep and will see if they will work with us up here in rochester minnesota and I will stay away from the tubes.

Can't understand why the air bed didn't work. We have had one for 10 years. In fact Bird bought one about a year ago.

I can understand getting wet if a water bed leaks. Guess what you get if a air bed leaks.

Like I said, the air bed was wonderful for me, but the wife did not like it at all. Now remember, I get the last two words in any argument I have with my wife. So when she brought up takin it back before our trial period ran out, my last two words was "Yes Dear" /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

A note from the other side of the coin... We have had the tube type for about ten years. It has been wonderful. I do though, have to realign the tubes every now and then though. It has not been of any issue though. Ours is a "Fashion-Ultra". Our tubes are baffeled, which is nice.

I did have a friend that had a different tube style bed. The tubes moved all over, and the mattress top was not attached very well.

I also have a soft side bed with the baffeled tubes. Have had no problems. The tubes don't move around much, just realign them when I rotate the cover. No complaints here.
