So the 4x20 is changing numbering......

I was talking with my dealer last night about my shipment date of my 4520 when he started talking about the trouble they are having with the Mexican plants and tyhe close of this model year. He stated that he could still order 4x20's, but they would be changing model numbers next year and would be like the 5000 series with the last three numbers being the HP of the tractor.

I was a bit surprised because I did not read it here first. Who knows, he could have stuff mixed up also, but it looks like I just bought one of the last few 4520 they will make...

Anyone else hear this?

Hmm....While I wont dispute what you heard, a few things make me scratch my head...
It doesnt suprise me we're getting updated models. I'd be the 2x/3x are also gonna be done at the same time. My biggest question is on the model number...I know you're just relaying info...so I'm not directing this at you NMU....but I dont exactly buy the 4x20 will end up with a 5000 series designation. While I do agree they will rename/number them, I'm expecting them to follow the rest of the series and "roadmap" that Deere laid out when they announced the new numbering schema, so I can envision the 4x20 becoming the 4m series, etc... 3x20 becomed the 3m, etc...

So...question for you NMU....hearing this didnt make you want to wait for a new one?

I really explained it bad. The 4520 will turn into the 4058M. They will mimic the 5000 series model numbering system, not turn into 5000 series tractors. Sorry...... My title sucks also. There will be a 4000 sees, the numbering system will change...

Nope, it has not changed my mind. I don't care about the number. I want it to work and the number of the tractor has nothing to do with that. I also do not want any more emissions stuff on the motor than needed. I plan to keep this one a long time.

so that would make the 4720 a 4066 and the 4520 a 4060? I like that they will be adding the hp into the model number. Any ideas if they will redesign the hood yet again? :D I kinda thought they would make a new 30 series (2x30, 3x30, 4x30)

I'd put money on a new hood design...

Actually the models would be a 4066m and 4058m.
The next gen big machines wont be 40 series...They will follow the same numbering scheme at time of redesign. I remember reading the release on the new model numbering and they werent gonna go retroactive...but as models came up for redesign they will get new numbers. Just like the 8R/8RT, model series by model series you'll see it.

the M (and/or any letter) is the "trim level" for lack of better terms...higher the letter, the more options/frills/features it has or CAN have.

Good example is already in the 5x series
5e = Basic machine
5m = Loaded Machine "Cadillac Machine"

If you noticed, the 3x series already has the basic machines in place with the 3032e and 3038e. Seeing as how the 3038e and 3520 share the same engine, chances are (assuming they dont tinker the HP for marketing sake) the "new 3520" would be called the 3038m.

Since they are going by hp, i figured up the model numbers...

2x20 20xxm series
2320 2023m
2520 2026m
2720 2031m
3x20 30xxm series
3320 3033m
3520 3038m
3720 3044m
4x20 40xxm series
4120 4043m
4320 4048m
4520 4060m
4720 4066m

I wonder if Deere will change the model numbers on the 3005, 4005, 4105? I know that they are gonna have a new updated 2305 but i dont know what the model number will be.
