Hello,
I recently moved to 12 acres of farm land and will be cutting 2-3 acres of grass. I refuse to buy a new lawn tractor and am looking at some Farmall Cubs and a Power King. Any input is appreciated.

There are so many combinations of possibilities you can get, and I will let others give their preferences.
The only three opinions I would like to share is to buy a tractor that is one size larger than what you need. Research as much as you can, look at any accessesories you'd ever consider; in doing that think of what you might do for neighbors and family with your tractor. And, lastly, 4wd is always worth it.

With 12 acres, you'll probably have more tasks then just mowing 2-3 areas (snow removal if you're in the snowbelt, for example).
If it's just mowing and nothing else,a ZTR mower would be the quickest.
If you do have other jobs, determine what they are and about how much you want to spend...then you can make a reasonable decision.

one to two acres are wooded and the rest is farmed by a friend...i actually expect my yard to get smaller as my wife sees how much time is spent on cutting grass.
thanks for the input

There's nothing wrong w/yesterday iron, but time does play role on tinkering etc. to keep them running..also finding parts.

2wd least 48" deck garden tractor if you want to side by..keep eye for auctions etc.

I've 8.5 acres that is VERY hilly. Had a Gravely with lots of attachments first. First thing I had to do with it was to put steering brakes on it to be able to steer the thing on my slopes. Then I added dual tires, because it didn't have the traction to pull loads up the back hill.

Since 2004, I've had my 4wd 4010 diesel CUT. It's a GREAT tractor. Worked it hard this winter in our record 56" of snow. Plenty of traction except in mud with its 4 turfs.

It's my diesel wheelbarrow a good bit of the time. The brush hog deck and the FEL are both used to move stuff.

I can't imagine why you want to mow 2 or 3 acres. I only mow trails and access areas. No need to mow huge areas unless you want to play ball games with friends. Otherwise, just bush hog it periodically to get rid of any unwanted stuff. I've some nice trees coming up in grassy areas that I let go.

As much as I like my cub.. If I owned 12ac.. I'd be getting a 30ish hp tractor. If you like the vintage look of the PK or cub, then look for a ford 660/860 or 661/861 5 spd tranny, live pto ( 2 stage clutch ) live hyds, options for hyd remotes.. and 33 or 45 hp.

I found a nice 1951 Farmall Super A (the Cub's big brother) on craigslist. Came with a 3pt hitch (the IH 2pt hitch is standard, the 3pt is an option), a 5-ft rear scraper blade and a 6-ft mid-mount sicklebar mower. $1300. It's a former CalTrans highway mower.

You can find mid-mount rotary mowers for the Cub and Super A pretty easily for landscape mowing.
