So was looking at tractors on the weekend. Checked out a new 2620 at a dealer. Seemed like a good "fit" for my needs at an acceptable price. I decided that it was worth the little extra over and above a similarly equipped 2320.

Got home and was looking online, only to discover a used (2014 with 75hours) 2650. It has a 60 inch bucket and a 72 inch mm. Wasn't really looking for a mmm at this time but ... . Not sure how much 'lighter duty' the 60 inch bucket is over the regular bucket.

Prices would come out within a couple thousand once I add a snowblower (yea, I know, but thinking about next winter!).

What to do!?!

The 2650 has some nice upgrades over the 2x20 series. On the 2650 check to see if it has the deluxe hitch, the split brakes on the left and the quick attach FEL bucket with the two levers. I had a 2920 and I would suggest you look at the spec sheet pdf's on Kubota's website and read about the differences between the two models. I also think the 2650 falls under the PDF/regen requirement. The 2650 also has position control over the 1/4 inching valve, though personally I think the 1/4 inch valve works well for me.

If the 2650 is from a dealer maybe you can negotiate not including the MMM, if you have no use for it. Btw, the MMM on those two models are a little different on how they function. I believe the 2x20 series is a floating or suspended deck while the 2650 has a ground (forgot proper term) supported deck. Again, best to go to the Kubota site and check out all of the info.

I compared the light materials bucket side by side with the standard bucket. They are the same construction. I believe it is more of a warning than anything to protect Kubota from liability claims. It will function fine on that tractor. I think a few more inches on each side would make me be more careful of the possibility of adding unequal torque on the loader arms, but other than that not much of any downside.

So if a little larger frame and size is not a problem, I would suggest giving the 2650 good once over! Good luck and enjoy your search.

I agree with Tompet with other then the emmisions part as it is under 30 horsepower it does not require a regen system. The 50 series is a bit bigger then the 20' series so if size matters it might be a disadvantage.

I had asked the question if anyone was mowing with a B2650 yet, but haven't gotten any responses yet. Most of the machines I have seen to date have been set up for winter duties! You're right, the B20 and B01 series have suspended decks, meaning they hang off the tractor, and on perfect ground, would never touch the ground. The wheels are anti-scalp wheels only, meaning they protect you from scalping the grass when the pitch of the tractor changes. The new B50 series uses a floating deck, which typically means the deck drags along the ground. The wheel are more than anti-scalp, they are used to set the height of the cut, and are meant to ride on the ground all the time. This should allow the deck to follow the contours of the ground, regardless of what the tractor is doing, yielding a more even cut.

I also don't think they offer a factory 3rd function valve for the B20 or B01. So if you think a grapple or blower with hydraulic shoot controls is in the future, the B2650 is the better option. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Fiziksgeek......the new B2x01 series has two optional factory rear remotes with the levers in the right rear fender. I have been told it also is available with a third function on the loader (like the 50 series), but the brochure does not mention that. But it does have a pic of one of the tractors with a button and wire on the loader joystick?

I have rear remotes on my B2620, but the control levers are on a plate that is clamped to the ROPS bar. So they would have to be re-thought if you wanted to add an aftermarket cab.

Good to know. I'l have to ask the dealer to confirm the availability of the 3rd function when I got out for a test drive, hopefully in the next couple weeks.

The quick asstach loader is enough to put me to the newer model unless there was a heck of a deal to be had in the older model.

If you're confused with the 2620 and 2650, may as well throw the new 2601 into the mix too. It's the replacement for the 2620, which is no longer made. Has some nice upgrades over the old model, including position control and better seat.

You are right.

Hadn't even thought about a 2601.

The used 2650 is a private sale so no luck on nat taking the mmm.

The 2650 has no DPF/Regen, only the 3350 in the 50 series.

The 60" bucket has been tough. 170 hours on mine and most of those are bucket hours moving dirt around the property. Loads as full as I can get including: dirt, rocks, concrete, stumps, misc construction debris.

I believe the little cubby on the right (where I usually plop my phone) gets removed and the rear remote levers go there, not sure on that, though.

I like the extra couple inches of ground clearance in the 50 series, along with the capacities.
Left hand split brakes are nice. Position control is great. 3rd function is available. I prefer the digital gauges over the analog ones, but that's really just splitting hairs.

I saw a 2601 over the weekend, it is a nice setup in a smaller package. It is pretty much a scaled down version of the 2650. I would prefer it to the 20 series for the convenience of the 3pt control and SSQA loader options (I swap between bucket and pallet forks or bucket and snowplow a lot).

The only thing I seriously dislike about this tractor is the location of the dipstick for the transmission. It's right next to the PTO and just appears awfully exposed to me, but it's likely to not be an issue.
