Hi everyone,
New tractor owner and member.
I probably should have asked this before I bought but too late now. I just got a 1989 model 755 2 wheel drive with a 47" front mount blower. Paid $5k with the blower and a 60"MMM, 1,100 hours in nice shape.
I plan on blowing a paved drive about 150 feet and driving up the road 1 mile to do it again on a shorter paved drive. Does anyone have any experience with this model blowing snow under these conditions? I did get chains with it and had them install rear tire weights, 65#'s on each side.
Thanks for the info!

That blower probably weighs 200 lbs, more or less, you will need more weigh on the back along with your tire weights. A back blade, box blade or weight box would do the trick. Are these driveways steep? The weight on the back will help with traction. Chains are good and will help with traction, is your one mile drive on asphalt ? Is so, your chains will eventually wear. And chains can do damage to a paved driveway, depending on the type.

It sounds like you got a good deal, good luck.

Thanks Harvey. Good suggestion on getting additional weight on the back of the tractor, I will get a weight box back there to start. Probably the cheapest option to start with. All of the roads I will travel on are asphalt including the drives. My driveway is flat the other is on a hill, I will try to blow going downhill and hopefully get back up the hill to try again. Fortunately that driveway is short, less than 50 feet long.

I know you asked about a JD...I rigged up an old pickup snowplow to my 25 hp Ford 2WD tractor. It has 2 weights per rear tire at 65lbs each, plus tire chains and a 1,000lb concrete block out back. It plows very well on flat ground or slopes if there is pavement underneath...not so well off road. Keeping the PSI maxed in the front tires and low in the rear tires will help as well.

As long as the snow is cold, then you should be ok.
But if it has a chance to melt, or a wet snow first that then freezes on, you will have difficulty with traction. Chains will be needed, so plan to remove them to make the 1 mile run on the asphalt to save wear and tear.
If you can get adequate weight on the wheels, then put a sander or salter on the 3ph for getting to the ice. Not much more frightening (or exciting, whichever trips your trigger) than getting partway up a drive and losing traction only to come sliding back down out of control. The pucker factor can kick in then, and hopefully you keep the tires down during the slide. 4wd isn't much better on ice, but somewhat.

Consider getting a back blade. It will add and little weight and, with the chains, might be enough. I think you will find it helpful in addition to the blower to clean up some spots as well as being useful the rest of the year.

I would also get my rear tires filled with rimgard for added extra weight.

Agreed. They are also pretty darned cheap on craigslist. Should be able to get one for $200-300. One thing to remember, they work both ways, but they definitely work better going forward.

Thanks everyone for all the information I am feeling a bit better about the rig now. I believe I will look for a used backblade that sounds like a great idea. I am new to these so I will have to look up "rimgard" for the rear tires. Never heard of it.
