I had a friend that brought me this snow blower about 5 years ago to repair the engine, Found quickly that it needed at least a shortblock. After several years of tripping over it I gave up on him ever getting the parts I have spec 3 times so I am making it mine...

Ordered a replacement engine from Steve Travis out at Liquid Combustion Technology. I had never heard of the company but they got me a great deal on this motor so I jumped.

There are some diffrences bolt pattern wise and shaft height wise but nothing I don't think we can overcome.

The motor looks good,,, Hopefully it will preform better than the Techump**** that was on it. He said he bought it and didnt need it for 3 years. It ran about 3 passes of his drive before throwing a rod through the block.

Just wondering where the motor is built? (China) Nothing wrong with buing from there, but I would suspect getting replacement parts might be a bit of a challenge. I have purchased directly from China and the cost was good, equipment was fine, but getting replacement parts is really an issue.

I hear people complaining about Techumsa engines, I know I have in the past, but I have run them hard for a number of years and they held up for me.

I also Have Briggs and Honda engines and with me the trick has been clean oil and filters. The biggest problem I have had is with a John Deere lawn mower engine although I can get parts for it I seem to have to replace something on it yearly.

Would like to know more about the motor you just purchased. HP, shaft size, cost, and most importantly how you like it after you get it all installed and running.

It is a 291 CC motor, I am sure it is china made, Looks like a honda. Shaft size is 1". I hope I like it,,, I have about 150 in it. Was a scratch and dent model.
I would have gone briggs or honda, but truthfully if I had to pay 400-500 for a snow blower motor this unit would have gone to the scrap yard. But 150, if I get a season out of it I will be satisfied, Hope it goes longer than that but we will see.
As for parts right now the company can supply any parts needed, That may be a craps shoot but it is one I have chosen to take.

Tecumpsche went out of business and I couldnt find a motor from them to replace this unit. I have not had good luck with their products.

I repowered an old Troybilt Horse from this outfitl: Small Engine Warehouse - Repower Outdoor Power Equipment

I found a deal on some left over Briggs 6 HP Inotek engines -- starter, but no charging unit. Works well, but unlike the original Tecumseh and older Briggs, these have a plastic impeller (versus the old cast iron). So when it jumped out of my hands and did nose dive it broke the impeller. Cheap enough at ~$8, and easy to change, just had to get one.

I have an old (now) Craftmans/MTD with a smog version of the Tecumseh. Works fine now that I drilled the main jet to the smallest drill bit I had (#60). Before it would sometimes require the choke be on while using it, other times not. Never found crud in it either.
