Does anyone have any experience with the snow plows that attach directly to the FEL, like the units produced by EMP? They look like they would be hard to control since they are so far out from the front wheels

I found my 7' rear blade could steer my tractor in very heavy wet snow but I have to run it at quite an angle to avoid snow overriding it. I suspect that a FEL plow has to be taller to allow you to run it at a smaller angles so it doesn't push the tractor around especially with no FEL weight on the front wheels. The EMP one looks abit short to me, but if you don't expect to plow 10" of heavy wet snow cleanly in one pass it may work for you.

It all depends on the:weight of your tractor, type of tires, chains or not, type of snow ect.My Fel mounted snow plow works great but my tractor weighs 7,000 lbs, with loaded R1 tires. My not be the way to go with smaller tractors.I had a 4,000 lbs tractor with a sub-frame mounted snow plow and that worked well also.

Its not that bad as you think.

I have a CK 20 s, without chains. Would anybody recommend using a plow with this combination? My concern is that since the plow is mounted so far in front of the front wheels that it will just push the front end of the tractor all over the place.

I hear some people complain about them making the tractor "crab" and other love them. I think it has to do with how the tractor is setup and the snow like nybirdman said and also how heavy the plow is. Here is video of guy with one that sticks way out and it works.

My setup works very well, 6.5' Meyers blade with hydro-turn. Blade sticks out a bit , doesnt affect plowing ability much unless its a deep wet heavy snow, then it kicks the front over. Front tire chains can really stabilize the front end keeping it from slipping sideways.

I thought this was an interesting build. Another QA plow build thread. (Need help) - Page 3
It put the blade a little closer. I also like the floating blade, that lifts with a chain, rather than one with down pressure.

As far as the snow kicking the front end over. I would rather have that happen than bend the loader arms. Those arms arn't designed for side pressure and will bend.

I run the my rear blade facing forward which works pretty well for my long narrow driveway, but as you can see its could get overfull with some deep snow if you have to do 3 or 4 passes.

Anyways, make sure the front bucket blade has a decent trip mechanism, I hit a couple rocks frozen in with the loader and its a bit of a jolt even when going quite slow.
Also the blade still could rotate the front end of the tractor even with the weight of the FEL on my DIY studded tires but that was only with heavy heavy snow.

I'm thinking about a setup similar to yours. Do you have a problem with the plow digging in when it is angled? I guess what I'm asking is does your plow float laterally when angled? I currently have a similar set up but it is rigidly mounted to the FEL. When I angle the blade one side is lower than the other. Thus the plow digs in. I'm wondering if your setup solves that problem.
