once in a while i hear a snapping sound coming from my rear transmission or wheels the noise is very random and it only snaps once at a time, then it wont do it for days or it can happen a couple of times in a day. I have 834 hours on the machine but its for personal use it sometimes happens when i cut the wheel or just crusing its very random. i have a woods 7500 backhoe mounted on the rear plus with the ground frozen i cant tell if its the backhoe frame hitting frozen ground or the hoe frame shifting around, any problems with rear gear cases or transmissions???

does this snapping happen when you change from foward to reverse and back if so you should check to see if wheel lug nuts are tight . also new holland has sent a service letter to dealers regarding after market attachments if there is any frame related damage to the tractor that has an after market attachment (backhoe) warrenty will be voided this is why new holland offers a full frame mount backhoe for there tractors.

First, check the rear wheels for loose lug bolts. Then check the backhoe mount areas for places where the hoe could shift sideways on the mounts, striking the sides of the mounts. This is possible on subframe mount setups. Are you using the swing lock? Could be the boom rocking against it. Grab the hoe's boom rocking it side to side as hard as you can (tractor off) and listen (extend the boom for more leverage). If all else fails, dismount the hoe, look for shiny spots where the paint is rubbed clean, see if the noise disappears without the hoe.

I get a snapping sound that is caused by my draft control which controls the depth an implement is allowed to bury itself in the ground by load sensing. When it is in the very light draft position, even bumps can cause it to want to lift the 3 pt. hitch which for a fraction of a second loads then unloads the hydraulics. That quick action causes a "snapping" sound in my hoses. I realize you have a hoe on back, but a hydraulic situation could be the result of the noise. If it is, not to worry as it is normal. Both my Ford/NH 2120 and Kubota 4850 do it. Rat
