Let me say up front I didn't see this happen, but my girlfriend called this afternoon and said that she saw 'smoke' coming from the vent on the left side of the differential (brake cover?). Yes, she shut it down right away! :D Anyhow...I thought I'd solicit possible ideas before making the long drive to check it out tomorrow. Looking at the 'manual' we have on the tractor, it looks like the 'J' vent just behind where your left heel would rest while seated. Fearing she had run it low on oil, I had her check the fluid level using the plug below the shifter and all was well there. Is there another location I should be looking, or is this all connected hydraulically? The tractor has the 3-bolt screen with no reservoir under the seat if this helps. Perhaps the brake was cooking?? I have no idea but will attack the beast ASAP. Thanks!

Since the brake lock is on the left side pedal I would look to see if it is in the lock position.

I just spoke with her and she indicated the brakes were giving her trouble. I think we have a culprit!

With a little luck, it's just glazed and will wear back to a normal surface. You might have to open it up and sandpaper the glaze off. I doubt the shoes are ruined.

New shoes may not be needed. When you get into it you may be able to just turn the shoes around and be good for Yrs. to come. ;)

Before I tear into the brakes, are there any tricks or landmines I need to be aware of? It looks straight forward, but you never know...:confused2:

Most of the post's I see on this subject has considerable build up and corrosion due to water, don't know if that is from rice paddies but wouldn't doubt it. Seems parts can require a good bit of clean up but I believe the whole system is pretty basic.
