I took these photos last night 1/DEC/08 . It is the most unusual thing i have ever seen . Two stars and the partial moon were in perfect allignment too make this Smiley Face in the sky . It will more than likely be the last time i will ever see it also . I hope it's a good omen .

Strange how it appears exactly opposite "downunder" than it does here. This is how the moon looks here tonight with Venus and Jupiter.

Nice pics. I read about this in the news the other day. Jupiter, Venus and the moon are together now. It won't happen again for forty years.

That is wierd , i would have expected the moon to be the other way up but still with the "planets" below it .

Thanks Tig . I don't think i'll get to see it again , i would be 89 .

Our area was covered with dense ground fog last night. As I was coming out of a store a hole appeared in the fog & I saw the moon with the two "stars". Later learned on the news that the stars were planets. Isn't it amazing that for all that's in a night sky something different stands out so clearly. A few years ago at about 2 am in a winter morning I saw a tiny oddity in the northern sky that a couple of weeks later was announced as a comet as it became more apparent. MikeD74T

My daughter pointed this out as we were driving last night. I thought it was odd that those 2 were so bright but the other "stars" weren't. I guess they weren't stars after all.

I saw it the same way as Tallyho except right over a ridge line of the West mountains. It was really cool to see. I wanted to take a snapshot of it, but didn't have my camera. I figured someone would have and I was right.
It sure is weird to see the difference as seen in Oz land.

I believe that everyone in the Southern hemisphere (Africa, India, South America, etc.) got the smiley face :) but those of us in the Northern hemisphere got the grumpy face. :(
