SMART PHONE & KIDS

/ SMART PHONE & KIDS #21
This argument came out years ago with kids and tv. kids stuck inside glued to tv's.

IMHO.. 48 minutes a day is not world ending. I remember when kids were watching tv 4-5 hours a day!

With phones, there are some tangible benefits.

1, you CAN CALL your kid, or text them.

2, in MOST cases, you can GPS TRACK your kid, if needed.

3, there are learning and interactive activities that can be done on a phone, especially some of the new enhanced reality applications that are out.

I'd rather see a kid walking in a park looking at his phone then setting on the couch watching tv gorging on snacks.

An hour a day, at the appropriate time, I cannot see as having a more detrimental effect than a beneficial effect. If I could only spend an hour a day on the computer, I would be ecstatic..but at my age, who cares...

I agree 2Lane. Kids are being exposed to technology that wasn't even a dream when I was a kid. We barely had a phone in the house, we had to ask permission to use that phone and we got B&W TV in 1950. The only time the TV was EVER on was when my dad would turn it on in the evening. We would watch the news and maybe one other show(Ed Sullivan or Friday night fights) and then it was OFF. The TV was never on during the day and us kids were outside all day anyhow.

We didn't get a TV until about 1955; I was a junior in high school. We had wall mounted crank telephones and a party line. I spent my spare time learning to play the guitar. We lived 30 miles from any populated town, and about 8 miles from our small town and 3 miles from our nearest neighbor. Besides. As I recall, the TV didn't come on until late afternoon and went off before midnight...both channels!
