Is there such a critter as a small (6-7ft) disc-type mower conditioner?

Thanks for any info.

Kuhn makes a 6'7" 3pt mount moco but it takes 80pto hp to run it as well as 1000rpm.

The also make a 7'10" pull behind that takes 60pto hp at 540rpm to run.

I don't know of any other "smaller" mocos.

Hi Guys
The 2401 Vicon is a disc mower and is a good machine with a clean cut that is hard to beat. Keep the oil changed in the cutter bar reg and it should give you a good life. It can be sold as a trailed unit as well and also with rollers instead of a rotor conditioner.
Cheers

Yes it's a good looking unit. I like the 3001TC mounted version. Easy to road and trailer transport.

If you're looking at older units, the NH408's I think they where called are around. Also, all kinds of 7ft sickle mower-conditioners. I can't imagine going down to a 7 ft'er though. You have to drive so fast to get any mowing done.

The 9 ft and 10 ft disc moco's are narrower than the 7 ft sickle bar moco's if gates are the problem.

One thing is he never really said his reason for asking. Is power or size requirements. I looked at JD's 600 series Moco yesterday and they are nice for transport (road and gate) issues.

Gentlemen - appreciate the information. I'm doin' my homework... or wool gatherin' as it were. (Very interesting posts regarding the accumulator and hay grapple systems; as well.)

I've been clearin' our property for a couple of year's now and we're lookin' at another 48 acre parcel that borders our place. Most of it is flat, high (no swamp) ground that would make several, small fields for hay, etc.

With the existing trees and the contours of the land; the fields wouldn't be your standard "square plots" but more like the layout of a golf course. Therefore, a smaller, more manueverable mower conditioner is something I'm most interested in.

I'm not focused on a big volume system (~50 acres) -- we generally only get one cutting of hay in this part of Alaska (Timothy, Blue grass) and 2,000lbs/acre (40 -- 50lb bales) is considered a very good yield.

A conditioner is paramount as the number and duration of "hay windows" is highly variable and lost hay to the weather is always a problem. Of course, getting the hay off the field as soon as it's baled is what everyone shoots for, too!

So... I've been intently following all the discussions here on TBN that have anything to do with hay production.

Thanks again.

John Deere makes very good equipment... and they never "give 'em" away - either! $20K for the MoCo and need 80hp-100hp Ag tractor; with baler, and tedder and rake.

Likely burn a big hole in a $100K bill for newer model JD equipment...

I can see an old model Farmhand accumulator and bale grapple and an old, $5K 2WD Ag horse with a $5K baler, tedder, rake combo in my future!!
